Update: The show starts January 9th.

As the regular Ghost Hunters appears to have finished it’s current run of new episodes, the news that Ghost Hunters International will soon be appearing is very welcome. Also glad to see that the rumors of Donna La Croix and Brian Harnois leaving TAPS were wrong is also great news.

Also note that Barry Fitzgerald will appear with these TAPS members on this series. You may remember Barry when he recently appeared on the Ireland episodes that aired last summer. I think he will give the group the knowledge and experience that the show will need.

It will be interesting to see who is the “Jason and Grant” counter part for the show. Maybe they won’t have someone “in charge” and will work as a team with equal members. Will Brian be back in charge of the tech equipment?

Clearly they need someone to say authoritatively “Make me a copy” and walk out of the room like Jason does!

Sci-Fi has issued the following press release:

SCI FI’S GHOST HUNTERS INTERNATIONAL TO PREMIERE JANUARY 9

All-New Original Reality Series is First Spin-Off of Hit ‘Ghost Hunters’

NEW YORK November 20, 2007 SCI FI’s newest original reality series, Ghost Hunters International, will premiere on the Channel on Wednesday, January 9 @ 9 PM ET/PT. Currently in production in Europe, this spin-off of the smash hit reality series Ghost Hunters will follow the adventures of a new team of paranormal investigators as they apply their principles of scientific debunking to some of the most legendary haunted spots around the world.

In the chilling premiere episode, the team heads to Scotland, embarking on a terrifying investigation into the abandoned depths of Mary King’s Close. This underground phenomenon, a warren of vaults and tunnels, was once teeming with destitute inhabitants at the turn of the 19th century. Now, Mary King’s Close is considered one of Scotland’s most haunted locales. From there, the team sets out to uncover the secrets behind claims of restless young spirits at the notoriously haunted Ragged School of Edinburgh, a former residence for impoverished children.

Like their U.S. counterpart, TAPS (The Atlantic Paranormal Society), Ghost Hunters International is a squad of real-life ghost-hunting experts – ordinary people who investigate and attempt to debunk claims of otherworldly activity. Comprised of veteran TAPS investigators Robb Demarest, Andy Andrews, Brian Harnois and Donna La Croix, along with Barry Fitzgerald (memorable from the Ghost Hunters’ legendary investigations in Ireland) and newcomer Shannon Sylvia, the Ghost Hunters International crew is primed to uncover some of the most startling paranormal evidence yet!

Ghost Hunters International is produced in association with Craig Piligian’s Pilgrim Films and Television (American Chopper, Dirty Jobs, The Ultimate Fighter). Piligian and Thomas Thayer, along with Rob Katz and Alan David, serve as executive producers.

In 2004, SCI FI introduced Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson plumbers by day, Ghost Hunters by night! Ghost Hunters has enjoyed its best season ever this fall, achieving record-breaking ratings in the weeks leading up to (and following) the successful Ghost Hunters Live on Halloween night. With a 2.1 Household rating and over 2.8 million viewers from 9-11pm, Ghost Hunters Live was the most-watched cable program for Adults 25-54, ranked second for Adults 18-49 and drove SCI FI to its best Wednesday prime performance in the 18-49 demographic since 2002 (Taken). The Halloween results show the following week ended the season with the best ratings for a regular series episode. Season 4 of Ghost Hunters will return in 2008.

SCI FI Channel is a television network where “what if” is what’s on. 1. Brian and Donna are no longer in TAPS. GHI sprang from their group, the Project deciding to create a series of their own, with Andy Andrews.

  2. There is a new ghost hunting game made by Star Mountain Studios in conjunction with TAPS.

  3. As with most new series I’m highly anticipating this, however most of the time with these paranormal series my excitement turns to boredom and eventually ends with me picking up the remote.

There are several downsides to this series that Sci Fi probably looked at but ignored because they knew it would make decent amount of money just on the name “Ghost Hunters”.

First and foremost, it’s a sequel series by definition it’s the later model and in movies that generally means worst then the original, name the last spin off series that you watched more the original?

Second for the venerable fans of the original series you will know what is happening with the casting. Jason and Grant are overall bad for prime time television but are the only decent amount of skepticism that Ghost Hunters series had. Patrons of the early series will know that Brian tends to over-exaggerate situations and is considerably poor in judgement. Also with this recent news about Barry in the group of Ghost Hunters International I’m worried what this series might become. If you recall Barry was the one who went running to aid of Jason and Grant because this irish specter was going to ‘make a hit’ as he says. (Read as that guy who could possibly ruin the most amazing moment on television).

I would rather see a better evidence gathering team, that understands a bit more about the psychology of the situation and will give us in the community something that could possibly stand alone as proof of paranormal.

  4. [...] January 9th at 9pm (8pm Central) You know I will be watching with baited breath. I’m wondering what they are going to be going with for the first episode of a new series? Will it be amazing evidence, will they try and show that not all places and all times are haunted and do a ‘no evidence’ show? We shall only see, for a little pre-show discussion, chat here or take up some words over on the spectral review. [...]

  5. Well It looks like the new GHI team will be something to watch. The first episode was pretty decent and I enjoyed it. If you guys want to hear my full opinon check it out here
