“Paranormal State” Haunts The Critics
Update: The demon name has been solved.
A couple of reviews have come in this morning on the new series “Paranormal State” with Ryan Buell and his ghost hunting group from Penn State.
Both are not good. Here is a highlight from Mark A. Perigard from The Boston Herald.com:
A & E’s new unscripted series about college-age demon hunters scares up a chilling case of stupidity.
And Karla Peterson from SignOnSanDiego.com has this to say:
As the Sci-Fi Channel’s equally erratic “Ghost Hunters” series proves, the problem with ghosts and demons in real life is that they are rather camera shy. So in spite of the sophisticated audio and video equipment used by founder Ryan Buell and his “Paranormal” team, the show’s spirit sightings boil down to a ho-hum collection of ominous noises, the occasional self-opening door, and pronouncements like, “There are bad things here.”
For a more positive review see our earlier posting on “Paranormal State” and Ryan Buell and also this posting about the first episode.
Personally I’m waiting to see the show myself and make my own judgment. I think these critics don’t really understand the effort and time involved to try to capture paranormal evidence.

My theory is that Ryan is really working for B. All of us are saying his name, bru ha ha let’s call on him at dead time, blah blah blah….but now the demon is obviously influincing a heck of a lot of people. I mean, why put his name scrambled up on the screen? Are we that slow? If it’s that dangerous why put it up there?? It’s so we CAN see it, challege it and discuss it…what do ya think???

Yes, most people are all that slow and yes its so people will think about it and maybe discuss it. If they didn’t say the name of the demon at all, it would be just a total black mystery, however A&E creatively scrambled it across the screen for contraversy ,Dramatic affect, ext….It wasn’t some kind of subliminal message. Its a little differnt bit of a subject matter to discuss a demon name in average conversation then to discuss a demon name in a situation where there is actual demonic presence or spiritual warfare. PRS didn’t say the name because of the situation at hand, but if I blurt out the name I’m not going to have demonic possesion.

The problem is, like I said in another review, is that so many people are expecting what they see in the movies. They’re expecting Carol Ann coming out of the TV, Linda Blair’s head turning 360 degrees, Emily Rose, Haunting in Conneticut, all that amplified stuff and the truth is that in all likelihood you don’t get that with each bit of paranormal activity.
At LEAST PRS doesn’t amplify things, at LEAST they’re honest and give the truth instead of trying to enhance stuff that’s not there. Plus, they don’t just go for the glitz, they go for the human factor as well.
