We here at Spectral Review are not paranormal investigators, demonologists, or drama critics. We don’t even play any of those on TV! But we do watch most paranormal shows and can tell the good ones from the bad.

Ghost Hunters episode report card.

“Return to St. Augustine Lighthouse

The TAPS team returns to Florida to perform another investigation on the historical St. Augustine Lighthouse.

Ghost Hunters revisits St. Augustine Lighthouse. Can they capture more great evidence like they did on their first visit?

Client Credibility

The team returns to one of their best locations to date. One of the employees of the Lighthouse Faith Albers explains how recent visitors have taken photos that mimic the evidence that TAPS found on their last visit of a dark figure overlooking the stair railing blocking out light from above. Also after closing the lighthouse a picture was taken of some figure in the lighthouse window in the upper area when she knew no one was still in the lighthouse.

The show started out re-capping the most compelling action from their first investigation. They did re-show the dark figure which reminds us on how good the evidence that was collected previously. The St. Augustine Lighthouse is one location with a lot of paranormal activity. Easily a five out of five ghosts.

Five out of five.

Investigation

Jason and Grant explain to us that they have a couple of new pieces of equipment for this investigation. A special camera that can take snapshots or 15 seconds of video if it detects motion in front of it’s lens. They also will install other motion detectors that will turn on a light if some motion is detected. Lastly they will install an audio recorder in a Faraday Cage. The copper of the Faraday Cage should eliminate any sort of electrical signal that could cause some audio recording anomaly. In this investigation they will have three cameras taking video.

Jason and Grant thought they heard children voices but those stopped as they ascended the stairs.

During the investigation a sound man claimed to have felt something touch his legs. He was following Dave and Steve as they tried to capture audio evidence in the lighthouse.

Jason and Grant joked a few times that Kris was “bait” since it’s been known that young pretty females tend to get reaction from the spirits that are at the lighthouse. She quipped maybe she should get a T-shirt with “Bait” on it.

I have to give the team a five out of five ghosts for their work.

Five out of five.

Evidence

The team captured four EVPs. One was clearly a child’s laugh. Another pretty clearly said “we don’t need you” and a third also was pretty clear “I don’t need your help”. The forth EVP was the weakest. The team thought there was a “Yes” answer to one of Kris’ query “is anyone here?” We here at Spectral Review had a hard time picking that one up. It just wasn’t clear like the other EVPs were.

When Jason and Grant went to the basement they appeared to have captured on the thermal a “head and upper torso” of a human figure. They tried to debunk as a reflection of themselves and couldn’t reproduce it. Jason went to the area and they determined it would have been a figure about 4 1/2 feet tall if it was standing. One of those pieces of evidence thats interesting but a bit shaky.

Again a lot of evidence. To have so many EVPs, the thermal video and personal experiences is really quite something. They will get a four out of five since the “Yes” EVP didn’t seem real to us.

Four out of five.

Conclusion
Another very strong episode from the Ghost Hunters. The St Augustine Lighthouse didn’t fail to deliver once again. The new equipment didn’t seem to add to this investigation at all. Hopefully they will continue to use it in season four as we believe it could be helpful. Again a five out five ghosts overall for this episode.

  1. I’m not feeling it anymore with these guys, their evidence are getting more and more spectacular and more questionable. I live in St. Augustine and have done a few tours of the lighthouse and got nothing like they got. But I do like seeing all these shows coming through. In the past few weeks we’ve had Ghost Hunters do the lighthouse, Ghost Adventures do Castillo de San Marcos and Paranormal Seekers from Telemundo do the Old Jail. Those guys by the way wear some cool uniforms.

  2. Understand that the plumbers have to come up with something to continue on. Even if they have to fake it.

  3. I myself had the opportunity to meet with the Telemundo Paranormal Seekers at the Old Jail, while my wife and I were touring the facility, I found them to be very respectful and business-like and truly interested in the paranormal. It is too bad that they are an Orlando-based cable access show, as I feel a group like this can give TAPS some much deserved competition, although from what I have seen with TAPS lately all they may do is stage even more spectacular phenomenon. Too bad.

  4. I am glad to see our city becoming so popular with all the ghost hunting shows.

  5. I was at the lighthouse this past weekend, (May 9th) for the tour and I too feel that these guys are just faking most of everything you see now. I never saw one spirit and I can’t help but ask myself, “Why do Jason and Grant always capture these images when no one else can?” During the tour, our guide ( I think his name was Daytona) told us about the Ghost Hunter incident where they supposedly caught a full apparition on camera. Well, if this is the case, how come the media isn’t all over this? This is absolute proof of life after death right? I use to be a fan of this show, but I have since come to the realization that they are in it for the money, fortune and fame. I’m truly sorry that they have fallen into the Hollywood trap as so many others have in the past, thus ruining their credentials as true ghost hunters. So very sad.

  6. I went to the lighthouse for my honeymoon last May and my husband and I both got very sick in the lighthouse, but we did not know until after we left that it was haunted. I actually have a picture of my husband with a little girl in a white dress in the background. And when we were there we were the only 2 in the lighthouse. Trust me when I say I had no idea that it was haunted I never watched ghost hunters until I found out that the lighthouse was on the show. And it totally freaked me out. So believe.

  7. We were on vacation in St. Augustine last week , on 7/07/09 we visited the lighthouse and Lighthouse keepers home, grounds… etc… While taking pictures at random of my 9 yr. old daughter and the beautiful surroundings… I THINK I may have captured a ghost, I had no flash on and nothing was present to deflect the light… even though… I caught a figure of mist in an irregular form hovering in front of my daughter and a large circle of mist (orb??) below her.
Let me know if you would like me to forward these two photos. I took quite a few photos and these are just plain weird. Photography is one of my hobbies… I am no expert , but I can’t explain why these things are in my photos. Ghosts??? I am open minded, yes, but not a real believer that these things can materialize and show up in a real photo??!!!!

  8. Jason and Grant are decent guys and I respect what they’re doing. However, with that said, they have done more damage to my believing than good! Apparitions always flash without a clear visual, appearing peripheral rather than direct?? Accounts of activity usually tend to occur by substandard witnesses.. lol. I have never had a direct contact experience, including high profile areas. GH has been on the air for many years now and it’s turned into the same thing week after week with very little to no supporting evidence. On a positive note, I will say that Grant and Jason are lightyears above Barry and the crew on GHI! That crew are nothing more than extremely lucky amatuers who have a television show! Joe and the girls are all useless, Barry see’s and hears everything constantly, while Dustin represents a visor in useless fashion, and Robb excercises new words he learns from the dictionary each week! Fiction is earning my support over the fictitious non-fiction on the tv these days!

  9. okayy so we were on a ghost tour that included the light house.itt was just my family and the tour guide.we began to walk toward the porch and we all just stopped and loked at each other. we had all seen what clearly looked like a man in a chair, just a black shadow, like an outline. the figure looked at us got out of the chair , ran to the end of the porch and jumped off the railing. we ran around the proch to see if we could find anything eles but nothing was there.

  10. I visited the lighthouse earlier this year. I took a small video clip and have two strange shadowy figures looking over a balcony… about the size of two children. Wierd thing is that on floor below a guy looks over and you can see the difference in size and he is in color. I assended the lighthous with my son whos 6yrs. I was uncomfortable and I did feel on a number of occasions like i was being pushed forwards and there was nobody behind me.
I have shown the video to a few people who say its strange. I didnt see the shadowy figures when I took the video and It came at the very end of the segment last for a few seconds I stopped filming, didnt see them, before they vanished.
I did not see the figures when i was filming I only saw them when i played back the video.

  11. real or fake at least these guys are trying to see if there is life after death no one knows for sure and if u all try to make them look like they are doing no good one dont watch them and two try to do better your self cause if u r complaning your just jealous they are sucesseful and u r nothing

  12. I have only been watching Ghost Hunters for roughly a year now, but I can tell there isn’t a Wednesday that goes by without my tv on Sci-Fi to watch. While I do agree that a lot of the times it doesn’t seem like they catch anything, if paranormal activity happened all the time then there wouldn’t be any debate about a “spirit world.” On the other hand, when they do capture something……..There have been several episodes where something has been caught on tape or recorder that would make anybody wonder “what if?” The episode (I believe its the first one here) of the St. Augustine lighthouse actually gave me goosebumps, and while its been several years since my last visit to St. Augustine, you can bet that I make plenty of trips to the lighthouse!

  13. I visited the lighthouse and did the ghost tour in October 2009. I have several pictures of \ mist \ or orbs. One of them appears to be looking out of St. Augustine Lighthouse window. I am not normally a believer, or \ fan \ of paranormal programs etc. However I did not expect for these things to appear in my photographs, but they did. Very interesting.
