We here at Spectral Review are not paranormal investigators, demonologists, or drama critics. We don’t even play any of those on TV! But we do watch most paranormal shows and can tell the good ones from the bad.

Client Credibility
Update: See Shannon’s comment at the end of this posting. She clears up the confusion. She basically wanted Ryan to investigate her condo also as New England Paranormal and New England Anomalies Research did earlier.
Well the proverbial paranormal slime may have hit the fan!! The client on this episode is Shannon Sylvia from Ghost Hunters International. Shannon was a member of New England Paranormal until she resigned on November 15, 2007. Earlier last year on February 13th she was “promoted” in that group to the webmaster position.
So the question is why would an investigator from a well-known group containing several familiar faces need to call Ryan Buell for an investigation?
It could be a matter of timing we suppose. We do not pretend to know when this episode of Paranormal State was filmed. The case number Ryan used was “2007.01.32f”. We wonder if the show was filmed in January of 2007. We don’t know but that could be before Shannon joined New England Paranormal.

Is Shannon Sylvia credible? Her story seemed interesting. She was having dreams, and well dreams are just dreams. She did tell us a story of a slamming door. We guess she is credible but the whole thing is just suspicious.
Investigation
The team did some historical research about the building and found out it was a former school. Then tried to capture some EVPs. They feel they find a voice say “Katie”.
They call in a psychic “Tricia” and pretty much debunk her. They make her look very silly as her stories are not consistent with her first reading for Shannon. Then they had a scene where she reads Sergy and basically gets everything wrong.
During “dead time” some motion detectors went off but that was about it.
Shannon’s husband is told by someone that a former owner of the property named “Katie” complained of the property being haunted by children. They interviewed this woman and got her story. An interesting tie-in with the earlier EVP “Katie”.
Then Keith Johnson came in and blessed the property to convince the spirits to move on. Of course Keith Johnson is a friend of New England Paranormal and often on Ghost Hunters.

Conclusion
This episode is disturbing because of the connection between the two shows via Shannon Sylvia. It makes one wonder if they couldn’t have explained the situation to us in some way. They probably didn’t want to do that because these shows will be repeated on and on over the years and it’s best for the production company to ignore the problem.
If we find out more details on Shannon’s timeline with New England Paranormal and this case we will pass it along.
Having said all that it still is one of the weaker episodes so far.

I’m sorry. Everytime I watch this show it drops on the credibility scale. From “may the power of Christ compel you” (striaght out of the Exorcist) to the many visits from Ghost Hunters (TAPS) vets and the celebrity of Mrs. Warren, one just sees the fluff rather than the proof. I just feel that the paranormal world is much bigger than the same few we see on other TV shows making their mark on this show. Are there no others out there that can assist victims of hauntings and paranormal activites other than the few “ghost hunters” we repeatedly see? The use of other celebrities and basic psychology tactics does not make a credible ghost hunter in my opinion! Let’s see some real paranormal investigating!

To clarify your issues…
I joined NEP in 2005 as an investigator after the training course and investigations required to join. In Jan. of 2007 PRS came in to investigate after NEP and NEAR and two other groups came up with great evp’s but no answers.
In July of 2007 I was selected for GHI since I was a TAPS family member. TAPS never initiated an investigation at my condo but their own will.

Although I enjoy watching these types of shows on TV, I do realize much of it is for entertainment purposes. I often cannot imagine myself in investigative situations (merely b/c I’d pee myself due to fright) and respect those who do investigate. EVP’s fascinate me but are a far stretch when trying to agree with what is supposedly being said(as a viewer of the show). I believe Shannon had experiences and I feel most people have experiences but don’t realize they do. I guess I just wish this program was less cheesy with the “director’s log” (much like Captain Kirk’s “Captain’s log”) and the lack of evidence. Interesting case studies-not so great results. Thanks for hearing my opinion.

Shannon has hurt the creditability of TAPS and paranormal investigations in general.
I have been a fan of Ghost Hunters from the start. What I liked about Jason and Grant is that, in the beginning, they looked to disproove a haunting as much as proove them. Then someone like Shannon comes along and it looks like she has every paranormal group investigate her supposed haunt (hearing voices could be attributed to mental illness as well has this avenue been explored, I mean since nothing creditable was presented as evidence) Perhaps a case of Munchousin Ghost proxy - where you claim there is a ghost/spirits to get attention and consolation - she has been rewarded so why no keep doing it. As if she is the only person on the plant with a haunting!”Call in help, I hear voices, I am the only one with a haunting!” oh, the horror. Seriously, if there is that much of a probelm with her condo that all the ghost hunter heavy hitters have been called in and there is still no reprives or creditable proof, you a.) get some sort of priest to help b.) move since it seems to be encumpassing your entire being c.)Ignore it - laughing children not all that sinister d.) seek mental help, perhaps you are halucinating e.)stfu - nobody what’s to hear it anymore.
How do you think someone bothered by giggling children is supposed to “investigate” centuries old castles with demonic spirits? Answer: out of her league, which is why Shannon is cowering and on the verge of tears in every GHI episode - she adds no deminsion to the show. Not only that, I love the way Shannon chanks on her gum and wears those silly hats - GHI has now become comedy instead of a quest for truth or proof. Good for a laugh I suppose.
I have explained this Shannon sham to people that do not watch either show to get their take. I tell them there is a ghost ‘investigator’ on one show that hunts down evil spirits and such, yet on another show she is the victim of ghosts and being taunted by the laughter of children. Wait she is a ghost hunter but can’t ‘investigate’ her own benign haunt. Why is she bothered by giggling kids but can sit in a church pew and talk to a ‘demon’? Apparently she wants to be on TV. Shannon, Flavor of Love 3 on VH1 is casting , better get your tape in - you could label it: Looking for a haunting love.
Also at the beginning of “paranormal State” they state that they only take the most critical cases. Why would the PN crew think an experienced ghost hunter would need help? You would think she would be qualified to do her own investigation and archival research since she ” joined NEP in 2005 as an investigator after the training course and investigations required to join.” Ahh, a tale of two Shannons. The PS team could have helped someone that really had no clue on how to investigate, or that had children that were being disturbed by a haunting. How selfish of you Shannon.
I sound mad? Sure, because people that research the paranormal get knocked back every time people like Shannon surface and cast doubts for her own gain - to be on TV, sell web space, interior designs, or spa treatments.
Shame on you Shannon!

I think Shannon Sylvia has contradicted herself, what she represents, and solely damaged TAPS credibility. Real paranormal investigators truly want to help those who are haunted by unseen entities and I felt that she chose to be on both sides of the fence. I might be able to understand her personal experience with the supernatural if and only if it LED her to become a paranormal investigator later on (many people have had paranormal experiences first before becoming an investigator – Jason and Grant, for instance). I felt she made a mockery of those who are in dire need of help and I would question her motives of being on ‘Paranormal State’ when she could have easily asked her own team members to come in and investigate without the production crew in tow. For that fact, why didn’t she just collect her own evidence, or as much as she could, and bring it to her team for review? I remember the contest on Halloween when TAPS was looking for a new member; the subject came up that doing ones research into the paranormal was paramount when it came to being an investigator. It seems that she hasn’t tried to collect solid evidence, differentiated the difference between residual and intelligent haunts (if that is in fact what is going on here), or more importantly, if she really thinks her condo is haunted, chances are she already has a preconceived notion that every little incident that can be rationally explained away is actually done by an entity of some type – this mindset is typically the norm with those who haven’t developed and/or try to find alternate reasons for the strange occurrences – the antithesis of what TAPS represents. I wonder if her participating in A&E’s ‘Paranormal State’ was a test or ruse of some kind to compare and contrast her membership with different paranormal research groups and that of the Penn State Paranormal Research Society. Rhetorical questions: why didn’t she disclose her paranormal investigative position during the taping of ‘Paranormal State?’ Why not post a comment before the show aired stating she was a member of a paranormal group? Why tape the show at all when she had all the tools necessary to investigate her condo? I would like to think that she knows how to set up video cameras, digital voice recorders, or even borrow investigation equipment that would document the occurrences going on. I would think that since this is her residence, at some point in time she’s bound to get some tangible proof; it’s not like a TAPS investigation where it’s ‘hit’ or ‘miss.’

I’ve found that this is the third interminable post I’ve found of yours and I am most certain that if I were to continue to open websites with forums about Shannon Sylvia, I would probably be entertained by yet another post of yours – the same consistent, repetitive tirade as the others!
While we are all entitled to our opinions, inundating the net with your diatribes about Shannon Sylvia is nothing short of obnoxious and completely inept on the level of debatable topics done on an intelligent level.
Does it really matter that she calls the media? Does it really matter that she has a website about a Saab dealership and chooses to express her opinion? Does it really matter what she does for a living? Does it really matter what goes on in her condo? Does it really matter what she looks like, what she wears, how she acts, how she picks her nose, whether she can pi*s standing up, how she takes a sh*t, etcetera??? Does any of it really matter? Seems the only person who it really matters to is you and you’ve made it your mission to go on a personal attack instead of focusing on the real issues. It seems that you want to be the authority on how much of a ‘fraud/sham’ she is, do you know this as fact?
By the way, I’m curious as to what she did to you that has got you so incensed and acting so malicious towards her – does a relative and/or someone you know own Village Saab? Did she see you walking down the street and just happen to violate you verbally to the point that it caused you to go on a grammar-challenged tirade on just about every scifi/ghost/paranormal forum you could get a post on? Could it be she said that she didn’t like the way you “chank[ed] on [your] gum and [the fact that you wear] those silly hats?” Maybe she told you that you were “barely passable for attractive,” or could it have been “[you do] not seem especially smart?”
FYI - ‘slander’ is “…a malicious, false, and defamatory statement…[http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/slander]” (‘slander’ is verbal‘statement’ is the operative word; it’s not ‘libel’) and you have that word not only confused with ‘libel’ (defamation by written or printed words, pictures, or in any form other than by spoken words or gestures), but also confused with the fact that it is her opinion. First, in order for her website to qualify as slanderous, it has to state an untrue, defaming statement (e.g. “XYZ car dealership have criminals working there and they steal money” – “Mr./Ms. XYZ is a felon who robbed a bank at gun point”) mentioned in front of third parties that has caused professional/personal damages (loss of business, loss of reputation, loss of job, etc.) and had a substantial negative effect on the business and/or the person’s livelihood as a whole. If she actually slandered that car dealership, (at the very minimum) her website be taken down and she would be sued in civil court for defamation of character. Your postings of her border on libel, so be careful what you post, you might just bite the fraudulent/sham hand you posted about if you cross that line!
Relax, already…take a deep breath! It’ll be okay.

I was able to talk and listen to Shannon on a radio interview that she had done. I have to say that I understand more of the situation and what happened. Shannon seems to be taking a bit of fire, and it seems that the people that are sounding off should maybe try to look into the story a bit more…

Shannon is in damage control mode.
She has obviously been exposed for the con artist that she is. Of course if you listen to what she has to say she will make you believe anything! She would probably convince most folks that the world is flat - she is a professional con-woman.
If you look around the web you can see Shannon enjoys media attention.
Shannon Syliva is desperate to be ‘famous’ despite having no real talent - kind of like the Kato Kalien of the paranormal world. A hanger on to people that do have talent.
Shannon Sylvia runs some amature web design business/spa/decorating firm/belly button lint farm. These are probably the reasons she claims the haunt beacuse naturally each newspaper story always mentions her web business as well has her spa.
A google of her name will reveal that she loves contacing the media - Shannon Sylvia can’t find health insurance - call the media, I am a “ghost hunter” call the media so they can write snappy headlines about me like “She ain’t afraid of no ghost” then I will go on another show to be tourmented by ghosts of laughing children. The cherry on the cake is that Shannon Sylvia made a web site called http://www.villagesaabsucks.com in witch she slanders a dealership that did her wrong for 1,000 (most of us get rooked for more) anyway what does Shann Sylvia do? Continue the slanderous web site and - you guessed it - CALL THE MEDIA, no less than 4 tv news stations, news papers and radio stations. She even has the gaul to tell a reporter that the troops are fighting for her right to freedom of speech and that the company she slandered had no right to try and take her web site down - yet anybody on the Sci Fi forum promptly has their Shannon Sylvia posts removed (even the ones that are just questioning the situation) By the way, my husband has been to Iraq several times and I can tell you that the troops’ are not fighting and getting slaughtered everyday for your “right’ to keep your silly little slanderous site up. That fact that you would say that is insane, insulting and disrespctful to the military and veterans.The world has more important affairs than that. Also, how very professional of a business woman to keep her slanderous site up even after the situation has been resolved. I know if I were a web client of Shannon Sylvia’s, I would drop her like a hot potato - I would not want her venom geared toward me if there were a business disagreement. What next? Odd that there have been at least 3 stories about the Sylvia’s condo in newspapers yet somehow a co worker realized his girlfriend used to live in their condo after the TV cameras showed up - wonder how much they paid that tool to give their story some substance. I don’t buy it, the Sylvia’s want everyone to know of the supposed haunt - yet a co worker didn’t realize that his girlfriend lived thereuntil the husband brought up “Katie’ or whatever name was heard. Why didn’t the former tennat - Katie have her entire life taken over by these school children. Why weren’t there numerous newspaper, evening news and TV film crews there when Katie lived there. Oh that’s right, becuase nothing is going on there - other than a clever plan to get your name out there with a haunting you know nobody can proove.
Also the dogs had no reaction to these spirits and animals are generally more sensitive than any tech gadget.
Can we just call a spade a spade. Shannon was caught with her hand in the cookie jar. The best we can hope for is that she is so embarrased that she just goes away.

Does it really matter if we think Shannon sucks?
I don’t need a definition of slander. Statments made were taken directly from Shannon’s site. Perhaps you can enlighten her. If you look at car delarship reviews, may people state that Shannon’s web site convinced them to look elsewhere for a car. So yeah someboy’s livlihood has been affected by her pettiness. Perhaps a salesman with a child got a little less for their birthday or were unable to go on vacation because customer that may have bought a car went elsewhere. Since the issue is resolved I would just take it down - it’s what a good decent person would do. Nope, not affiliated with the dearship - I think Saabs are goofy looking cars and I don’t live in the East Coast - so I can care less. I just brought that site up to illustrate a point - people at the dealership need to make a living just as much as Dear Shannon so if I were on a jury I would award the dealership anything they wanted - or is free speech and opinion reserved especially for Shannon - I am only recycling stuff she has put out into the world? And I can psot anywhere I choose as many times as I choose - I enjoy exposing ‘fishy stuff’. As far as libel - I am not writing anything that is not found on a google search or that many other people have already pointed out. Perhaps she shouldn’t have given out so many interviews about the voices she hears in her head.
No matter, she has been exposed and is a joke.
You do make many good points in your post, until you get preachy.

Jenn, you forgot to mention the hundreds of posts you have made to GH and GHI forums on scifi, using numerous nics.and every one a hateful diatribe against Shannon. Your posts are being removed at the request of other posters who are absolutly sick to death of all this hate you spew.
Do you get it now? The posters want you gone. Take your hate messages and put them on your own website where you can appreciate them…because no one else does.

I’m a little perplexed myself about Shannon. I have to agree with most of the people that are confused as to why Shannon who was working as a paranormal investigator would call in a menial show like Paranormal State if she was tied in with TAPS who were greatly respected. My problem with Shannon is now it seems like she is putting TAPS in jeopardy and I feel like everything is fake now. Grant Wilson personally endorsed Shannon for Ghost Hunters International so that means he had to have known she did Paranormal State and called the Boston Globe. To me this makes him just as suspicious. I also think that Ghost Hunters International are suspicious too. I don’t know what to believe anymore. Shannon seems like she just wants fame which probably mean they all do. Whatever happened to doing it for the science and to help people? Ryan Buell is a friend of Shannon’s I heard, is this true? I’m really confused and sad to think that all of these shows are fake. Sure I know that Most Haunted is and I had my suspicions of Paranormal State because they all sounded like they were actors now that Shannon Sylvia has shown up on it, yikes!! She’s bringing down the credibility of all the shows and that’s not good.

Although “Jenn” has posted often, I don’t find what she expresses hateful. The questions and confusion are put out there as information for others. Multiple postings just means that person wanted to get the word out. I have seen the A&E board. It does not look like “everyone” wants this person gone. As a matter of fact most seem to agree. Just as Shannon or anyone else for that matter to express what they think so does Jenn. I agree with her, Soraya and others who think that there is something wrong with playing both sides.
I also think her being on both shows is somewhat misleading. So let people say what they want. If Shannon is honest in all of this, she won’t care anyway.

She complains that the admin keeps taking down posts that everyone makes condemning Shannon. It is other posters that request the removal of these obnoxious posts.

Multiple postings under numerous namesof such hate gives you an idea of the mind of this crazy person. And SHE is the EVERYONE making these crazy posts.

Bobby, that’s not true at all. I have no idea who Jenn is I don’t even know if she’s posted where I’ve seen controversy I only post on the Scifi board and TAPS board and never saw anything from Jenn. For your information, it was not the posters who requested the posts to be removed. The admin’s at Scifi have issued a post that due to “legal reason” and in fear of being sued, they had to remove the posts. Believe me when I say that people have been screaming FREEDOM OF SPEECH violations which maybe this is something Shannon could help us with. Unfortunately someone, somewhere told the admins that they are in no way to speak of this on their boards and I can promise you this, it was no hokey little poster I know for a fact the moderators have confirmed this. They’re all allowed to bash Andy, Robb, Brian and Donna (don’t recall any Barry bashes) and they’re fine they can stay, you can go look, but anything negative about Shannon is against the law, I guess you would say? So here lies the problem with my suspicions of her and that sucks because I am rethinking TAPS and GHI I mean if they endorse her, they must be faking stuff too. I think that Shannon should do the right thing and tell us all what happened and why Ryan Buell is posting on her myspace? I’m very suspicous of this whole thing, I have my own mind and I don’t need Jenn to tell me anything (although I think she’s right) I have my own mind. I have also seen people posting about having her investigated which I think should be done and maybe this is why we’re not allowed to talk about it, who knows. Wow. What a pissing match. Does this really have anything to do with the article? Obviously there is more to this feud then most readers want to know. Celebrities unfortunately put themselves out there to be put under a microscope. And we’ve read that! They need to be ready for these types of comments whether they like it or not. I have my own opinions about what I’ve seen this week but I’d never get so emotional about it. Readers and bloggers slamming each other on a news blog? Come on!!! Let’s move on to this weeks ghostly entertainment and see what we can enjoy (or rip apart). Shannon news is old news now! Let’s move on to the next paranormal episode with a more sceptical or open mind!

Bobby, I truly have no idea what you are talking about. Who’s Steve & Mike? These sound like people you know not me. I know about the television shows I watch and the television shows that I was under the impression were out there to make a science out of the paranormal. So I was fooled and now you think I have mental problems? I have no idea who you are either but if I had to place a bet I would say you must be Shannon’s husband especially due to your arrogance and lawsuit threats. I don’t even know what Skiffy is??? I am a fan of Ghost Hunters and Ghost Hunters International. I saw Shannon on a questionable show was shocked and then started to see all the posts pouring in on the scifi board and taps board and it got me thinking that someone is not on the up and up and since it was Shannon who was on all the shows it leads me to believe it was her. I know for 100% certainty that the Scifi & Taps boards will NOT have any derogatory posts about Shannon and Paranormal State due to legal issues and judging by your statement regarding “this is where it’s heading (court)” it has to be you behind the threat. They stated this themselves I am not making this up, but if you are an “insider” and you’re telling me that this is not true then why are they lying to us? This whole thing stinks to the high heavens and your posts are only making it worse. I will be writing to Scifi/Pilgrim myself and maybe to New England Paranormal and TAPS to find out what’s going on because judging by your answers something is trying to be hidden here and that’s not right.
Ghost News Reader, I am new to the paranormal shows. I’ve just recently discovered Ghost Hunters and then couldn’t wait for Ghost Hunters Int’. if you don’t believe that’s fine, it’s all cool and good, but to me I feel silly because I did believe and I think that if Shannon is the downfall of it all then she should either step up and tell us what the heck is going on or step down and let someone else who is a real ghost hunters looking for answers not fame to step up. I’m not getting into a pissing match, Bobby was the one who addressed me, I was just making a post about something suspicious.

Bobby, I am honestly starting to think the men in the white coats need to come take you away! WTFetch are you talking about?? What account? All I do is put in my name and my email address! I posted a reply to you and to someone by the name of Ghost News Reader in my same post. Is that what you’re talking about?? If so even that wouldn’t make sense because they’re bascially sticking up for Shannon.

Seriously - this is not just one person posting and changing names. Soraya’s postings are very well stated (and I fully agree with)and I’m not sure why you would call any of us that would like answers idiots. Soraya has just as much right as anyone else to say what they think!! Also, why would Shannon Sylvia sue us (or me) for wondering what the real deal is with Shannon? Refer to the post above about Shannon’s deep belief in freedom of speech and the right to say what you want on the web. I doubt she would win in any court - she set the precedent of saying whatever you want on the net without personal ramifications.
She can dish it but can’t take it.
I don’t get it…do you know her? Does she want to sue people posting on the net or sci fi? How do you know this? You can I bet I also know how to alert the media, and she would look like a petty cry baby. If she does that only serves to proove our point further.
Ghost news reader: Unfortunately, I won’t be watching GHI or paranormal state anymore as I don’t trust either anymore and they are probably just for entertainment (too bad - I like everyone else and think they have pure motives). Any suggestions on alternatives to these shows? I like the discovery channel “A haunting” but most of those are repeats.

Wow, some posters here think they have all the answers!! This is pure humor, i’ll sit back and enjoy the ride for a while. You’ve got me all figured out, yep, i’m a con-artist who calls all the papers. That’s it folks, i’m exposed. You got me!!!
Legal issues? What tabloid was that in? SciFi, Pilgrim all knew about Paranormal State guys. No secret’s been exposed, a ghost hunter can have a haunted schoolhouse (btw more action than just giggling kids, ask the 11 other tenants who see ghosts/hear voices/etc…) Please folks, if you want to verify any information or DIRT as you see it, call the papers who CALLED ME FIRST, Boston Globe, USA TODAY (I’m on a business panel and they called me for a survey) and the Sentinel and Enterprise, Telegram (SciFi did a press release remember those folks?) and after the victorious day in court against Village Saab there were 7 tv stations there. I wasn’t even supposed to be in court that day but my attorney called me out of work! Please verify this all, I challenge ANYONE to put me on a lie detector to prove me wrong. ANYONE.
I’m done defending myself, I have so many supporters that will now get my attention not the one or two redundant posters in these forums from now on . Watch the show for the love of ghost hunting, don’t care so much if i’m shivering in 50 degree orphanages or what color hat i’m wearing today.

Then Pilgrim and SciFi made a big mistake knowing that you had done the Paranormal State episode and hired you anyway. To us the viewers, it looks inappropriate to have a paranormal investigator as a client on another TV show. I think it’s fine that you wanted Ryan to investigate your home, you just should not have agreed to use it for TV.
As for the other attacks you have endured, they have been off-topic at best and just inappropriate. If they continue this comment section will be closed.

Shannon, well I am glad you finally chose to address this situation, thank you. I still have my doubts about the shows now even more than ever considering Scifi/Pilgrim knew and approved your episode on Paranormal State (which is really the show I question in turn makes me question GHI & GH). I can promise you that I don’t know Jenn the moderator of this board can see my email and my IP address. That guy Bobby went off on me, I have no idea who he is either. I just came here because a friend of yours gave me the link to see what everyone was saying about you that’s all. I did not come here to fight with anyone and don’t plan on speaking to that guy who is posting whacky things. Again, Shannon, I honestly don’t know if I believe you are a true ghost hunter especially with all the media coverage and shows you’ve been on but I can promise you it’s not because of your hats, lol I find that funny that people point stuff like that out. Can you please answer the following question for me? I am wondering why you didn’t call in TAPS if you believe your condo was haunted? I think they would have taken the case in a heartbeat, I mean a haunted school house converted into condo’s and 12 tennants verifying all this?
