We here at Spectral Review are not paranormal investigators, demonologists, or drama critics. We don’t even play any of those on TV! But we do watch most paranormal shows and can tell the good ones from the bad.

Ghost Hunters International episode report card.

“Haunted Village”

The team investigates the sites of brutal murders in and around the Elvey Farm Hotel in England.

Ghost Hunters International visits two locations in England. One pretty good investigation, the other one revealing little.

Case: Black Horse Inn

Client Credibility

The owner of the “Black Horse Inn” is a man by the name of Kevin Savidge. He tells the team about the “old bailiff Will” and they explain to us that Will would have been a tax collector. So that would have left him as a very unpopular fellow. He also is supposed to have his two dogs with him in the bar. They tell us of other events like breaking glasses and a story of a cigarette flying through the air. Plus feeling of cold spots behind the bar.

There is another area of the Inn that has a fireplace. The reports are of a little girl haunting that area. She apparently died in that area.

The owner seemed very credible.

Investigation

The team decides to use the EMF meters in a unique way on this investigation. Usually these meters are hand held and can be used to find real EMF emissions to try to help debunk a claim. People do believe that a ghost may generate EMF when it manifests itself. But on this investigation they decide to use them as an “alarm”. Not sure how they came upon deciding to do it this way. Maybe during setup they noticed them going off.

Robb and Andy decide to debunk the cold spots behind the bar. They could find a lot of drafts around the door that could possibly explain these cold spots.

Barry and Brian try to capture some EVPs in the bar. Barry pretty consistently taunts the spirits or takes an emotional approach when trying to get EVPs. In this case he feels someone push down on his shoulders. He calls the entity “filthy” for touching him the way it did. The EMF detector when off a couple of times.

The team decides to send in the girls, Donna LaCroix and Shannon Sylvia. Donna was concerned if the spirit was malevolent and wanted to bring her rosary beads. They seemed to be able to ask some questions and it appeared that they could communicate via the EMF meter making sounds. What was interesting was that Donna was apprehensive at the start then Shannon asked the entity if he wanted “to dance with my friend Donna”. Like they were just old buds. Unusual.

Robb and Barry went to try to capture EVPs at the fireplace and the spirit of the little girl.

Evidence

The evidence collected entailed the EMF meter spikes. Barry did try to duplicate the EMF surges with the camera equipment but couldn’t. They felt some of the spikes seemed to match up with question posed by the investigators. Our problem with this evidence is we want to know why they decided to use the EMF meters in this way. If the meters were just going off randomly earlier then what makes them think it was an intelligent haunting? Seems like more work could have been done to debunk these EMF surges.

They did get one EVP to the question posed by Barry “Are you playing games with us?”. They said the EVP said “perhaps”. Perhaps this is an EVP but it was really hard to hear on TV. So to us this EVP is a bit questionable.

Case: Elvey Farm and the Screaming Woods

Client Credibility

The owner of Elvey Farm is a man by the name of Simon Peek. He tells us that he heard of the haunting claims before he bought the place but was cynical that they occurred. But after living there for a while and experiencing things he was a bit more open to it than he was before.

One claim is of a guest that said she saw orbs flying around the ceiling in the guest bedroom. Next we are shown the farmhouse where a farmer apparently committed suicide. Voices heard is a male saying “I will, I will”. Apparently as the story goes that is what he said to his wife right before he shot himself. It was a spooky story.

Someone saw a bed in the farmhouse appear to have been disturbed by someone lying down in it. They attributed this to the same farmer who committed suicide.

Lastly Mr Peek shows them the “screaming woods”, also known as the “daring woods”. Overall the client seemed credible.

Investigation

Their first step is to debunk the orbs in the ceiling. They believe it could be cars driving on a road nearby. Sounds logical.

They go on to do a thermal sweep of the barn. They see some rats and attribute the noises in the farm house to them.

Donna and Barry try to catch an EVP of the farmer in the bedroom that may have laid down on the bed.

They go onto the screaming woods. Robb and Andy hear lots of noises. Later Barry and Brian go in the woods and actually get lost. Using the thermal camcorder Robb and Andy find them. Brian did hear a “ha ha” in the woods that sounded very similar to Nelson, one of the Simpson’s characters.

The thing they didn’t show us is trying to capture EVPs on the first floor of the farm house where the farmer is supposed to say “I will”. They didn’t really try to check into that claim.

Evidence

Not much evidence collected. Just personal experiences of noises in the woods. It’s much more likely to be noises from animals even though using the thermal camcorder they did not see any animals. Most likely this is all explainable as normal.

No “ha ha” was recorded.

Conclusion

Overall one of the weaker episodes in this new series. The “best” part of this episode that they claimed was the EMF meter spikes at the Black Horse Inn and that seems shaky at best. Plus we just didn’t hear the “perhaps” EVP clearly at all over TV. And they didn’t have much luck collecting anything at Elvey Farm.
