The Fort Madison Daily Democrat has an article about an investigation of the Mason House Inn.

Chuck and Joy Hanson operate the Mason House Inn and became convinced their bed and breakfast was haunted after some strange occurrences. They said they finally believed it after a group of students were touring the inn and took several photos. In one group photo there was an extra person in the picture. His face was blocked by another student’s sweatshirt and he appeared to be wearing a kepi, the type of hats Civil War era soldiers wore.

“None of the students were wearing hats,” Chuck said. “They were told to remove them out of respect.”

Chuck said that photo was “the talk of the county.” But it also caught the attention of paranormal investigator Christopher Moon, who lives in Colorado. Chuck said Moon contacted him several times wanting to do an investigation at the inn. The Hansons didn’t want to do it, but were finally convinced when Moon claimed he could get the names and stories of the spirits in the inn.

After an investigation Moon found enough evidence to ask the Hansons if he could conduct ghost hunting classes at the inn. The first was in March of 2005 and many have been held since then.

The Mason House Inn conducts workshops on Ghost Hunting often. The next one is March 29th. The class is conducted by Christopher Moon. To get details on this workshop and others see our workshop page.
