We here at Spectral Review as you might imagine enjoy the “reality” based ghost and paranormal shows. These shows include Most Haunted, Ghost Hunters, Paranormal State and Ghost Hunters International. These shows in their own way each try to find answers to questions about the paranormal. One could argue about their methods or motivations but they do try to show how they search for ghosts.

These shows are just representations of real people who do paranormal research. Nearly 100% of these people do this paranormal research for free. That tells us that these researchers are not only dedicated to this research but passionate about it also.

We want to know more about these people. Why do they do this research? How did they start? What expertise do they have?

Our next article in the “People in Paranormal Research” series is from Lisa of Carroll Area Paranormal Team (CAPT). Lisa is the co-founder of CAPT.

We hope you like this series. If you have any suggestions or want to participate in our series, use our contact form. And as always you can leave your comment here.

Onto the questions and Lisa’s terrific answers.

How long have you been in paranormal research?

Formally for almost a year.

Where are you located, what area of the world do you do investigations? What is the farthest you have traveled to do an investigation?

I live around 10 miles south of Knoxville. The farthest I have traveled to do an investigation is to Council Bluffs and Storm Lake.

Was there a particular reason or event that lead you to do this research?

Childhood events at a family members home, events after my mother passed away and several unexplainable ones since then, even in the home I live in now.

Why do you continue to do this work?

Each investigation brings new questions that I like to find or attempt to find the answers too and to help other people who are experiencing “events” that have nowhere else OR no one else to talk to.

What would be the most compelling evidence you have seen or heard?

EVP’s are my favorite forms of evidence. To hear whats right there in the same room as you are, but you can’t see it OR them, the EVP’s let you know they are around and some forms of hauntings are intelligent and are trying to communicate with you.

What is your role in your group? Is that where you started? What other roles would you like to learn and do?

I’m Co-founder of the group, I’m also Case Manager. I’m the first contact most of the time with the client. I do the interviews to find out what the situation is and determine its priority, cases involving children being threatened or just scared get higher rankings, I set the dates for the investigation and take care of most correspondence with the clients. I’m also a lead investigator.

When I first started I was an investigator, nothing more. I’m doing research into a different area of hauntings dealing with Elementals…. I also would like to learn more about the tech side of the work.

Have you taken any formal training in your life that has enhanced your skill set for your paranormal work?

There really isn’t any type of formal training you can take. You could take parapsychology as course, but I think the best way to learn anything is hands on and by personal experiences.

What advice would you give someone who wanted to get into the paranormal field?

Don’t go into it without an open mind; Be prepared for the things you’ll come across; DON’T be afraid; Work with the team…. you cant do it alone.

Is there some aspect or point of view about the paranormal field that you wished that everyone in the field followed?

Ethics.

What misconceptions do the public and/or media have about the paranormal field you wish you could dispel?

They call us ghost busters…… we aren’t ghost busters. We are paranormal investigators, we go out seeking scientific evidence of a haunt, we don’t go into a home or any building for that matter with the expectation or the thought that the place is “haunted”. We look for the reasons that it may be occurring, if it can be explained thats great, if it cant be and we cant find a reason for it to be happening then MAYBE ….. but until all evidence is gone through we voice no opinions.
