Lafayette Cemetery No 1 of New Orleans
One of New Orleans reported most haunted locations is the Lafayette Cemetery No 1 located in the garden district of the city.

First built in 1833 from land that was originally a plantation owned by the Livaudais family. The Livaudais family wanted to sell and parcel their plantation land as the city was rapidly growing from the immigration of many Germans, Irish and other immigrants.
The land was used as a burial ground for the plantation before being sold. The first burial records date to 1841 but because of the earlier use by the plantation as a burial ground there must be some undocumented burials.
In the following twenty years after the donation of land, there were three outbreaks of yellow fever. In 1841 there were over 200 burials of yellow fever victims. In 1847 over 3000 deaths. The the worst outbreak in 1853 and 8000 victims. Bodies were often just left in a pile at the gates of Lafayette. Much too many bodies to bury and were incinerated instead at the location.
Several films have used the cemetery as a location including Double Jeopardy and Interview with a Vampire. The use of the Lafayette Cemetery in this way has added to it’s legend.
