As you may know we here at Spectral Review recently investigated the Myrtles Plantation with Everyday Paranormal. It was a chance to investigate the paranormal with the seasoned veterans of Everyday Paranormal.

We have posted a lot of information about our adventures at the Myrtles Plantation including a Myrtles Plantation Photo Gallery, and a Myrtles Plantation Investigation Timeline.

The work of evidence gathering and evaluation is ongoing, and Everyday Paranormal will release their evidence on a future DVD. We will let you know when it’s available, hopefully in the summer of 2008.

However we wanted to share the personal experiences that people had at the Myrtles Plantation. These experiences happened to veteran investigators of Everyday Paranormal, and to people who are new to paranormal investigation, which includes the staff here at Spectral Review.

We started off with some spooky stories from the Caretaker’s Cottage. Next we cover the museum portion of the home that is usually only open to the public during tours.

Chair in the Gentleman's Parlor

One of the investigators Jim tells us this creepy story about the chair pictured above:

There was a chair in the Gentleman’s parlor that was maintaining a 40 degree and less temperature as seen by the Flir Thermal Imaging camera. I had it on white hot mode, and the chair was the only solid black color in the room. The odd thing about it is that all of the other chairs and furniture in the room were normal room temperature. I checked the chair out to make sure it wasn’t metal framed or anything that might be causing this temperature anomaly, but it was just material over a wood frame like all of the other chairs in the room.

Here is where it got even stranger….we started to do an EVP session near the chair and we were asking questions like “is someone sitting in the chair?” Very steadily, the temperature started to increase on the chair until it was finally the same temperature as the rest of the room. We found out later from one of the Myrtles staff that the image of a man has been seen sitting in that same chair by guests and staff for several days prior to our arrival. I have never seen anything like this on thermal, and I work with these devices for a living. Definitely the weirdest thing I saw that night.

This will be something to see on the DVD! We must say we have seen the Ghost Hunters use a thermal camera over the years but I don’t think they ever explained how the camera works as well as Jim has above.

The next experience happened in the Chloe bedroom. The following picture shows the women taking EMF readings near the Chloe bed.

EMF readings near the Chloe bed

First we hear what Lisa experienced in this room. Like the staff at Spectral Review, Lisa is not an investigator from Everyday Paranormal.

My experience in the Chloe bedroom is hard to explain but I know what I felt and I’ve never been cold like that in my life (and I’m from Chicago – I know cold weather!) My teeth started to chatter and I literally felt frozen in place. At the same time I was literally sick to my stomach and slightly dizzy. Once we left the room I felt fine. When we went back in there for the second time, the nausea came over me again. It’s the only place in the house that happened (thankfully.)

Next Hector who is one of the Everyday Paranormal investigators, adds to the experience in the Chloe bedroom that Lisa was telling us about:

Monica and Lucrecia were both taking EMF readings at the head of the bed in Chloe’s room after some provoking. Whatever was in there was making both detectors go crazy…..While this was happening, Lisa was standing at the foot of the bed and she started to feel cold, like freezing cold, so cold that she started shaking. She was holding the thermal reader but unfortunately wasn’t able to read it because of the uneasy feelings she was getting. She wasn’t comfortable so we decided to leave. I was the first one out the Chloe’s room and started heading towards the porch. As I turned towards the main doors, I saw a shadow of a head and body on the floor passing from one side to the other. The door that was open was casting the shape of the door on the floor from that evening’s moonlight. So you can see the outline of the front door on the floor, this is where I saw the shadow is passing from one side to the other. I yelled out “is someone on the porch”, thinking it was someone from the other team. As I rushed through the door and on to the porch, I called out again, “Is someone on the porch”, looking down the porch, no one was there. I went back inside to check on the group and shared this experience with them as I wrote the time down by the video camera that was recording Chloe’s room.

This next picture has been edited by Hector to illustrate as best he could the shadow that he saw.

Wow.

To give you some perspective, the Chloe room is to the left of the stairs that you can see with the red carpet. So Hector entered from the left and looked toward the door as he describes above.

  2. i love the myrtlys plantation if you could find more on cloe the one eard servent i would be grateful pics would be awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. I went to the Myrtles plantation yesterday, we were all sitting around the table by the fannie room and it was so cold around 1am that my teeth were chattering. I was the only one who was cold though, pretty strange.

  4. Like so many others, I heard about Mrytles on the show Ghosthunters. After that, I had to go. I will skip to the good stuff. In a day and 1/2 I took about 650 pictures, inside and out. The mirror, of course, was a hard hit target. Not only did I get one ghost, I got two, and it’s great stuff. That with the sound of footsteps and a slight shake of the bed, I drove away a big smile and a picture not be denied… Looking forward to my next encounter.
