Personal Experiences at Myrtles Plantation Upstairs Guest Rooms
As you may know we here at Spectral Review recently investigated the Myrtles Plantation with Everyday Paranormal. It was a chance to investigate the paranormal with the seasoned veterans of Everyday Paranormal.
We have posted a lot of information about our adventures at the Myrtles Plantation including a Myrtles Plantation Photo Gallery, and a Myrtles Plantation Investigation Timeline.
The work of evidence gathering and evaluation is ongoing, and Everyday Paranormal will release their evidence on a future DVD. We will let you know when it’s available, hopefully in the summer of 2008.
However we wanted to share the personal experiences that people had at the Myrtles Plantation. These experiences happened to veteran investigators of Everyday Paranormal, and to people who are new to paranormal investigation, which includes the staff here at Spectral Review.
We started off with some spooky stories from the Caretaker’s Cottage. Then we relayed the experiences people had in the museum section of the home.
Next we cover the part of Myrtles Plantation main home upstairs bedrooms that guests stay overnight. If you visited Myrtles and stayed the night in the main home, you may sleep in one of these bedrooms.
This next incident was like a whirlwind.
Spectral Review was there at the time but Brad and Barry from Everyday Paranormal explain as they were closer dealing with their equipment. However we were witnesses to the action!
First from Brad:
This one was a cross between Barry, Brad, and Steve – our group entered the the upstairs bedroom portion of the house. As soon as we got up there, we noticed on our DVR monitor that one of the IR cameras in one of the rooms had been knocked down and turned around. Barry went in to inspect it and fix it back into place. When he set it upright and stepped back to look at the angle, the camera literally jumped off the dresser at him and hit him in the chest. The angle at which the camera had to take to hit him in the chest would have been a 45 degree angle up, so it it obvious the camera didn’t just fall. I headed for the room as soon as I heard the camera hit the floor, and as I approached the door, the walkie talkie I was carrying got bumped out of my hand. About 5-10 seconds later the door downstairs leading to the outside opened up by itself. It was almost like someone hit the camera, stormed out of the room bumping me in the process, and went right out the door.
Barry adds by saying:
We were starting to investigate the upstairs bedrooms when we found that one of the cameras had fallen over. We all agreed that the tape holding it down came loose. The camera lying on its side. I proceeded to put it back in its original spot and re-tape it down. I set the camera up and was retrieving the tape which was on the bed next to the dresser when suddenly, the camera flew off the dresser and hit me in the chest before falling to the ground. I was standing a good 2 – 3 feet from the dresser and there is no way that the camera could of hit me in the chest if it simply fell over. Someone or something had to knock it off the dresser in order for it to travel the distance required to hit me. We are still reviewing the evidence and hopefully can shed some light on this strange occurrence.
The following picture (we apologize for the blurriness) gives you an idea of where this incident occurred. The wall opposite the camera has two doors which are bathrooms. The wall on the left you can see a door frame. That door is to the bedroom that this IR camera was located. And you can see the stair railing on the left. The door at the bottom was wide open.

Another incident occurred later in the night in the same area. It is told to us by Hector who is one of the Everyday Paranormal investigators:
We were in the upstairs bedrooms area of the house taking pictures and EMF/thermal readings. In my hand I had the small EMF detector, the thermal reader in the other hand while my camera was hanging around my neck. I placed both detectors on the table where the DVR and LCD monitor were stationed. Here at the table we decided to split the group, Lisa and Monica were assigned to watch the DVR screen as Gretchen, Alejandro and Lucrecia did an EVP in the William Winter’s room. I was going to float around and take pictures in the different rooms. I handed Alejandro the thermal reader and left the small EMF detector on the table. As the EVP session begin, I left the room and started to take pictures in the John W. Leake room, then proceeded to the Fanny Williams room. As I was leaving the Fanny Williams room and heading towards the hallway to take pictures of the bottom of the stairs, I heard a loud “thump”. I immediately stopped and looked up at Lisa & Monica to see if they had thrown or dropped something, as I was going to ask them, they immediately ask me the same question. I looked on the floor to discover that the EMF detector was standing right side up (see picture below). They noted the time on the DVR to go back and review.

The following picture gives you some perspective of what we saw early the next morning after the investigation. The white door you can see open on the right in the following picture was closed but popped open a foot a second or two after I had opened my eyes. I do not know what awoke me, but I literally opened my eyes, lying in a position looking toward the door and the door just popped open about a foot. I was on the left side of the bed while Shelly was on the right side. When the incident happened I looked about the room and did not see anything out of the ordinary. It was daylight by then. I laid back down but didn’t fall back asleep.

From Shelly:
The investigation of the Myrtles lasted from about 9pm-4am. During that time I did not feel afraid or threatened in any way. I’m sure it was the adrenaline that kept me from being vulnerable. However, when the investigation ended and the equipment was torn down the action heated up. I could not wait to lay my head down on the pillow. The “courage” I had during the night had faded somewhat and I began taking precautions. The first thing I did was shut the door between our room and an adjoining bedroom. The door was wedged pretty tightly. Then I went to sleep in my clothes (can never be too ready!) and pulled the covers up to my chin. I would say I got about 3 hrs of hard sleep when I woke up suddenly to feel the side of the mattress (where I was facing) being pushed down. Then I heard a little grunt, like that from a child, as the mattress was being pushed down again. (This sound was familiar because it reminded me of my own child trying to get into bed with me when she was very young. She would step on the siderail and pull her way up onto the bed.) After that happened it felt as if someone was climbing up onto the pillows behind my head or trying to put something between them. NOW I was awake and somewhat afraid to open my eyes. But after a couple of minutes I opened them and looked at the door. It was opened. I rolled over and my husband (Mr. Spectral Review) was looking at me. I asked him what time it was and why he was awake. It was 7:15am and he told me he woke up suddenly and a few seconds later he saw the door pop open. Needless to say I was a bit spooked by this. I looked between the pillows fearing I’d find one of the dolls that mysteriously moves from room to room but nothing was there. I questioned myself over and over about whether I was awake or asleep but I know what I felt. It was so familiar to me, like when my own child would climb into bed, that I cannot discount the experience. I feel that it was a child and hopefully Kate (or one of the other children) felt that I was no threat!

Pzz63e Hello!,
October 19th, 2008 at 9:48 pm
A man staying in another room had a similiar experience as Shelley. He was awakened during the middle of the night of August 2, 2004 by the mattress sinking next to him like a child was sitting there.
My question is: what was the name of the suite you were staying in that night the visitation occurred?

We were in the William Winters room. The story is It was the room where his daughter Kate had died from an illness.

Hypnogagia.

How does a nonphysical entity manifest physical effects? I mean, footsteps, “thumps,” flying cameras, flying bricks . . . Seems daft.

What Resume?

Waking dream.

No waking dream if you are already awake. Hey Resume, take Randy on an investigation and perhaps the 2 of you can come closer to finding out the answers and sharing it with the rest of us.

Been there, done that . . . have answers but don’t think you’re interested in having youre bubble burst.
October 20th, 2008 at 1:53 pm
I’ve had enough happen to me in my lifetime to keep me interested in the unknown. So nothing you could say will burst my bubble or 1st hand experiences. You are just a bully skeptic who spews out his cynicism to the rest of the folks on this site who are her to be entertained or enlightened or whatever. Go piss on some other site where your brethren will enjoy your constant negativity and killjoy. It’s getting really old reading your crap here!

I just think you are too afraid to share your experience on this site, Resume. Maybe you will get ridiculed too.

Sorry that criticism of your hobby makes you feel the need to launch personal attacks and use vulgarities.
My personal experiences are much like other’s: mis perception, hypnogagia, etc.

Personal attacks and vulgarities? You should read some of your past comments! I think my favorite insult was you calling your fellow bloggers “huckleberries”. One thing you have right, though…it is a hobby and not my lifelong quest for the truth. So my wasting key punching on your constant nitpicking is a waste of my time. Have a good day, Sunshine!

Hi. Good site.
January 28th, 2009 at 10:44 pm
I enjoyed reading your experiences from your April 2008 visit to Myrtles. I have been a patron of the B & B for the last 12 years. My friends/family visit 2-3 times each year with one of the visits serving as an annual patronage in late January and/or early February near my birth date. Our experiences (stories ..many documented via film and/or audio) are numerous. Early last year 2008, there appeared to be a significant increase in activity and for the first time in my life, our party (inclusive of myself) fled the house in the middle of the night. What began with simple questions with knocking responses ended with the entire upstairs and eventually downstairs of the house beginning to shake as if there was an earthquake. Once we collected ourselves, we returned to the house to find all of the lights off (even the outside lights) save one light in the upstairs where we had fled just hours before. We returned again in late May, but unfortunately we were not alone and the spirit activity was divided. We are returning soon for our annual February trip and would be happy to share our stories and pictures with you. Once again, thank you for sharing your experiences as we will be sure to visit the area’s of the plantation that you experienced heavy activity.
