An eye on the paranormal world in today’s popular culture. Articles refer to news about paranormal groups, TV shows and appearances by the leading ghost hunters in the field.
March 11th, 2009 by djb

We have decided to move to a new format on the Report Card articles we create for the Ghost Hunter episodes.

Jason and Grant have always highlighted that they earn their living as plumbers. But clearly they do not bang on pipes now. How would they have the time? With all the travel, personal appearances and special events, what time is left to install porcelain fixtures?

So when we stayed up late into the morning of November 1, 2008 we realized that they were no longer plumbers, no longer paranormal investigators, but were in fact magicians!!!

The video above details what happened much better than we can. What we will do in our new Report Card format will award the Ghost Hunters “points” for future antics.

Introducing the Magic Plunger ™

The Magic Plunger

So without further delay, onto the Ghost Hunters: Betsy Ross House Magic Plunger Moments ™

The old Footsteps-heard-overhead-or-down-the-hall-trick ™

This is a common technique Jason and Grant have been doing. The actual footsteps don’t come over to the viewer very much or at all. They did this trick in each of the two locations tonight, the Glenn Mills home and the Betsy Ross House. Perhaps we heard a bang on the first incident at the Glenn Mills home.

We will give them two Magic Plungers ™ since we heard one noise.

Two Magic Plungers

The unique Vibrating-bed-trick ™

OK we have to give them credit for something unique. In the Glenn Mills home in a child’s bedroom upstairs, Grant felt the bed shaking or vibrating. Jason did try to see if it was a vibration in the floor, but found nothing. Of course it goes unexplained and we have to take their word that the bed was actually vibrating because apparently it was too hard to show it vibrating on TV.

We will give them three Magic Plungers ™ since it was a new idea.

Three Magic Plungers

There are perhaps a couple other Magic Plunger Moments ™ we could detail but unfortunately we had technical difficulties with our recording of tonight’s episode and didn’t hear the reveal at the Betsy Ross House, so we will hold comment.

Please let us know in the if you feel there were other Magic Plunger Moments ™ that we missed!

  1. I’m wondering if they are TRYING to kill the show.

Remember last year when they were so “outraged” when they found the “paranormal props” at the Moss Beach Distillery? It reminds me of the Police Captain from the movie Casablana:

“I’m shocked, shocked to find out that there is gambling going on here.”

    “Your winnings sir.”

    “Oh Thank you.”

  2. Thumbs up to Spectral Review!!! Keep up the good work! It’s shows like Ghost Hunters and TAPS that give legitimate paranormal investigators a bad wrap. People like us who are watching, have our intelligence insulted to think that we get some kind of paranormal activity everytime we do an investigation. Not at all…..we have spent countless hours in reputedly haunted locations where we haven’t encountered a single bit of unexplained activity. Can’t wait to see the next clip….

  3. Ooops! CORRECTION: I meant to say “shows like Ghost Hunters and Most Haunted”….Sorry…my bad.

  4. It is clear to me that you guys all hold your self in higher esteem than the TAPS guys. Your claims of being “legitimate” paranormal investigators are pretty alarming. To what do you base your claims against? There is no “official” line of work in paranormal investigating hence why there are many many groups out there all claiming to be “experts” in this field. The TAPs group clearly has a technique down that encompasses disproving before proving. They dont “pad” there evidence with pics of dust, breath and flash anomalie and use these to lay glorious claims to haunting. Yes i agree that the SciFi channel clearly sensationalizes some of there stuff for ratings, who wouldnt? But there evidence is alot more convincing than most of the tripe out there. Do you think its a coincidence that the SciFi channel didnt come looking for one of you guys to be the “personalities” of the show? Yeah right, “yes ma’am” these orbs mean your house is haunted, yeesh every episode would a be a haunting. Oh wait we already have that show (most haunted). The only thing i see here are a bunch of disgruntled and jeleaous nay sayers, who are just plain peeved that these guys got it right and there science is alot more credable than yours.

  5. Orb:

Have you actually watched the DVDs produced by the people who have posted on this story? Going off on “orb” accusations is desperation on your part.

Clearly the GH “tricks” really increased when Jason and Grant became Executive Producers in Season 4. If you actually looked at the episodes critically (especially season 4 on) you would see each episode has a couple of incidents like detailed in the article. Grant seeing an apparition, Jason hearing footsteps, ALWAYS off camera or out of range of the microphone.

Remember Grant “crapping his pants” at Fort Mifflin when he saw the ghost of William H Howe?

  6. GH & all the others out there are making the rest of us look bad. Everytime I make a call a potential client asks me if we’re like the guys on tv! I tell them no, we are serious about what we do.

I used to enjoy watching their show, now I can’t stand it.

  7. And not to beat a dead horse here, but I also find it amazing that most (and dare I say all) people who make hit and run remarks don’t have the balls enough to put their names out there. To all RoboKitty5000’s and Orb Out The A$$es out there, grow a pair. Then I might have some respect for you and your comments.

  8. well in defence to orbs, i have also seen all the crap all you guys call so called evidence and i cant belive that some of you would post that crap, orbs are not ghost at all and if you where really serious about what you did you would not post that crap so if anybody is giveing this field a bad name it all you people that post crap evidence and from what i can see its all most everyone,, and yes i agree with orbs you guys are wishing you could even be half the team taps is,, maybe if you all stoped posting orbs and breath as evidence people would not laugh at us in this feild,,, learn how to gather good evidence and stop assuming cause someone says they seen a ghost that it is there,,, so get off your high horses. and take the time to gather good evidence orbs are notttttttttttttttttttttttttttt good evidence. and as far as taps goes,, keep up the good work guys

  9. So now I am confused. Our website is http://www.everydayparanormal.com. Show me a single orb we have ever posted. What website are you looking at?

  10. By your no response to my last question, I take it you were looking at another website when you made your accusations. Your apology is accepted. You can take the foot out of your mouth now, but first you have to remove the head from your ass.

  11. It seems the two plumbers have milked all they possibly can from their TV venture though I’m sure their rabid constituency will provide them with a comfortable income.

  12. Well said Brad!!! I totally agree with you on your comments to “Orbs”. Our team, like Brads, do not consider orbs as paranormal evidence. I don’t recall any mention of us stating they were evidence. And as far as being jealous, we have nothing to be jealous of. We are not in this for stardom. We are interested in gathering evidence of unexplainable activity. If we are lucky enough to capture any of this activity, we look at all posssible explanations. Even if we cannot find one, we do not claim it is always paranormal. It is up to each of us to form our own opinion. And as far as being experts, I don’t recall any of saying we were experts. There are no experts in this field. We all have our own theories and beliefs. We present our findings and let everyone decide for themselves.

Our problem is when GH and MH deliberately falsify or stage activity to the viewers, and some of the simple-minded audience actually believes what they are seeing is genuine. And when the staged activity becomes public, it makes a bad name for all paranormal investigators who don’t fake their investgations.

It is good that shows like GH and MH get exposed. But it amazes me that even when the shows antics go public, the vast majority of viewers still believe that their findings are real.

I just bought myself a new bike today, now I have somewhere to park it…careful when you bend over!!

  13. We are just sick and tired of people outside this field shooting off their mouths when they have no clue. If they would just give me an educated response or comment–whether it be critical or supportive–it does not matter. As long as it is respectful. Disrespect me and it will come back 10-fold. I think too many in the paranormal field just roll over and take the abuse. No more. And for petes sake, they need to get their story straight before opening their mouths. As far as the television thing…I am all for groups getting the field into the main stream, and TV is the best place to hit the main stream. Unfortunately the “one bad apple” syndrome carries alot more weight in paranormal.

  14. I agree with you 100% Brad. I don’t think we will hear back from “Orbs” for a while.

  15. I had doubts about GH for a while but when the owner of a Yahoo group claimed that Jason and Grant did not make money from the shirts and shows, I looked for proof. I got more than I asked for and kept digging. The woman, Brenda, from the first episode has been trying to tell people for years that TAPS is full of it but nobody would listen. She is the voice on the EVP.

I have never searched for proof of ghosts but I do have personal experiences.

Could someone please have a forum that requires the use of spell check in posts? The fact that posters are incapable of knowing that “there”, “their”, and “they’re” are not interchangeable is bad enough, but when someone is too lazy to spell words that even look close to what they are supposed to be, it’s impossible to take the poster seriously.

  16. [...] can claim they have “the best evidence so far this season coming up”, but so what when it’s just faked? Or why get excited just because Meatloaf is going on one of their investigations? The plumbers [...]

  17. Is that the big insult now? Orbs? “Well your groups shows orbs!” 99.99% of Orbs are nothing but dust, but I don’t have a problem showing an orb under the right conditions and it has to be corroborated with other evidence. If someone just felt a cold spot at a certain area, or someone thought they were touched and its the same area that the client has had possible anomalies then there is nothing wrong with showing an bright orb that is moving at 90 angles. Come on people its time to move on from the great orb debate and lets catch same great evidence! As far as the plumbers go?(and their learning disabled fans) THEIR day is done. THEY’RE no longer plumbers or investigators, THEY’RE actors! Once they hit TV they probably always were.

  18. Isn’t it funny how those who love GH all claim to be skeptics, yet when presented with PROOF that Jay & Grant are falling into the lull of the $iren that will surely be their end, they decry every other paranormal investigator/group to be hoaxes? I have seen REAL orbs (have one caught from our home surveillance that we believe to be one of our departed kitties, it rises up from her grave, travels up the tree line, is seen going in the window, mind you this is in broad daylight & then about 5 – 10 mins. later is seen coming out of the same window & whooshes up into the sky!) & have seen, heard & felt (not psychically, but physically) ghosts. Unlike a lot of investigators out there, I do believe there to be evil/demonic forces, but they are not as rampant as some folks think. GH has gotten a bit too big for it’s 4 legged britches & instead of allowing for there to be less obvious “proof,” they’d resorted to what I feel to be total horse puckey. Whether you love GH or hate them, you cannot deny that things have started to get hokey since Jay & Grant took over as executive producers. I highly suspect when the show opens with them “working” as plumbers, it’s all for show & to get some more $ from Roto Rooter. GHI is also quite farcical & should be scrapped ASAP if GH wishes to keep feeding the public the bunkum that makes them “believers.” As for the other shows, it will be interesting to see where the future leads them as more & more of the public becomes interested in the paranormal, but if there is to be a show on network TV, that’s one I’ll avoid due to the fact that it will undoubtedly be chock full of hokum.

  19. throughout the ages, there have always been people like you who feed off the energy they get when they make other people look and/or feel bad. you shouldn’t knock a show like ghost hunters, when they are most likely the reason that you yourself have a job in this field. shows like most haunted and ghost adventures make real shows like ghost hunters look bad. needless to say, i will not be tuning into your show, nor will i tell any friends that a show like yours will be coming on. we’ll see who’s still around next year. ghost lab? or ghost hunters? i’ll put my money on ghost hunters. why don’t you rip off another shows idea, and then make yourselves look like you know more than they do by trashing them. dirty jobs? so you think you can dance? how about wife swap? or you could just fall off the face of the earth forever. that would be ok too. get over yourselves.

  20. Brad your eyes should be brown instead.

  21. Your website does not show any evidence at all other than EVP’s. Hope this is not a indication of the show.

  22. [...] And if you have visited Spectral Review the last year you will know we think the plumbers are actually magicians. [...]
