The television critic from the Seattle Post-Intelligencer writes about the current paranormal prime time shows we have also been tracking. She writes about mythology:

Constructed well, a series’ mythology elevates it from forgettable, goofy venture into a phenomenon worthy of blog worship and academic study. Unique mythologies made “The X-Files” a hypnotic, addictive mind bender, and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” a roiling stew of emotions, metaphor and literary allusion. They became their own universes, in a sense.

I guess I don’t look too deeply into these things. Seems like to me if a show is entertaining and the story line not too far-fetched it can be fun to watch. I suppose the writers and TV critics have to get into whys and hows these things work. I think they would be better served by writing and producing compelling material and characters that the public wants to attach their eyeballs each week. I know thats far easier to say than do.

The writers strike will be affecting our favorite shows in the near term unless the strike is settled sooner rather than later. The new shows this season will be affected more than older shows as Reaper has only a half dozen episodes under it’s belt. I believe they only originally made 8 episodes and ordered 3 more scripts. So it’s run will end soon.

Update on the strike is available at Variety.

Onto our review. (more…)

How shows are rated is complicated so I will just summarize here. We will just go through the shows as they air during the week, the following is not a ranking as the shows compare to each other. This information details how these shows did against the competition the night they aired.
