Product Description Number-one bestselling author Nora Roberts presents the second novel of her In the Garden trilogy (following Blue Dahlia), as three women must discover the secrets from the past contained within their historic home...
Three women meet at a crossroads in their lives, each searching for new ways to grow-and find in each other the courage to take chances and embrace the future.
Roz is a woman of independent means who thought love was behind her, but when romance takes her by surprise; she won't allow anything to keep her from her second chance at happiness.
A Harper has always lived at Harper House, the centuries-old mansion just outside of Memphis. And for as long as anyone alive remembers, the ghostly Harper Bride has walked the halls, singing lullabies at night...
At forty-five, Rosalind Harper is a woman whose experiences have made her strong enough to bend without breaking-and weather any storm. A widow with three grown sons, she survived a disastrous second marriage, and built her In the Garden nursery from the ground up. Through the years, In the Garden has become more than just a thriving business-it is a symbol of hope and independence to Roz, and to the two women she shares it with. Newlywed Stella and new mother Hayley are the sisters of her heart, and together, the three of them are the future of In the Garden.
But now that future is under attack, and Roz knows they can't fight this battle alone. Hired to investigate Roz's Harper ancestors, Dr. Mitchell Carnagie finds himself just as intrigued with Roz herself. And as they begin to unravel the puzzle of the Harper Bride's identity, Roz is shocked to find herself falling for the fascinating genealogist. Now it is a desperate race to discover the truth before the unpredictable apparition lashes out at the one woman who can help her rest in peace...

Black Rose December 16, 2008 I never received this book. How complicated is it to put a paperback in an envelope, put that address and postage on it and put it in the mail. I won't use this system again or will purchase from Borders.
The best one out of the three in this series! December 1, 2008 This was my absolute favorite, Blue Dahlia and Red Lily were good reads to but Black Rose took the cake for me! It's a character that me being in my 30's now want to be like Roz when I'm her age. Love the paranormal books but this was just the perfect mix of the resident ghost, getting back at an ex, having girlfriends when you need them and finding a man at a time in your life you thought was lost! Loved it!!!!!
My favorite Roberts' series! November 15, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm finding this series to be delightful! I especially appreciate the lovely setting - the grand house, and the gardening center. The characters engage me in such a deep way that I invest myself emotionally into their stories, and I find their interactions with each other to be fascinating. It's very nice that while each book in this series centers around one of the main women, the others still have promenant roles throughout rather than being relegated to being merely in the background. I can't wait to read the next book!
Black Rose September 16, 2008 First of all Marvin isn't the one reading the Black Rose it is me Jackie and I am loving it. But you see I had already read the first and last in the Trilogy, so I am finding out things I didn't know about when I read the 3rd book. I had gotten the firs two in a used book shop and had to order this one. I love Nora Roberts books. I am also reading some of her books under the name J.D.Robb. This is probably more info than you wanted. Jackie in Cushing, OK.
From J. Kaye's Book Blog June 14, 2008 THE BLACK ROSE is the second in the garden series. It mixes botanicals with southern culture and the paranormal.
The setting is a centuries-old mansion just outside of Memphis and comes with its very own ghost. And now love will blossom between Rosalind Harper and Dr. Mitchell Carnegie. I liked the twist and turns of this book.
Still...
Preference wise, I liked BLUE DAHLIA better. Both are great reads. It just Stella and her hunky babe are who I really fell in love with.
