Product Description Lights flicker on and off for no good reason. You feel drained and inexplicably irritable. Your four-year-old is scared to enter her bedroom. Tell these things to Mary Ann Winkowski, and she'll tell you that you have a ghost. A happily married, devout Catholic, suburban mother and full-time paranormal investigator, Mary Ann Winkowski has been able to see earthbound spirits, spirits that are trapped on earth and haven't "crossed over," since she was a little girl. Mary Ann works with these spirits to help them make peace with what keeps them here - whether it be people they can't let go of or homes they love. In WHEN GHOSTS SPEAK, Mary Ann will tell the amazing story of growing up with this gift, and will share tips on how to recognize when you're not alone, and what to do if you are in the presence of a ghost.

I'll Give Benefit Of The Doubt, But Not A Solid Belief August 16, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am by no means a diehard (pardon the pun) skeptic. I am an avid reader of anything re: LAD, NDE, ect. And though I take everything I read with a grain of salt, THIS particular book has me straddling the fence, caught between wanting to believe she is legitimate and wanting to roll my eyes. In both book form and a few YouTube videos I've watched of her, Mary Ann comes across as completely theathrical and over the top. First of all, as someone else mentioned, the spiritual photos, most particularly that of the statue look p.h.o.n.y. It looks as if it is what it is...a STATUE. And she wants us to believe that she has caught on film what NO OTHER reputable ghost hunter to my knowledge has ever managed to achieve? A clearly defined photo that leaves no room for doubt? Okkkk. She details conversations with earthbound ghosts as if she is talking to an average, flesh and blood person. Considering a spirt is nothing but energy with no form, no features, are we really expected to believe that they 'wiggle their eyebrows suggestively'? And why is it that nearly every medium out there claims to 'work with police' to help solve cases, yet not one of them has any evidence, including from their reputed law enforcement to back up those claims? I hate seeming so negative and skeptical, when the fact is, I am just like millions of others. I WANT to believe. However, as interesting and borderline unique as this book was from others I've read, it still reads like fantasy fiction. I am a huge Ghost Whisperer fan, but this belongs in a television studio, not reality. As with everything else, take it with a grain of salt. It's a fantastically entertaining read, but not quite convincing.
good book, but... July 13, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I agree with other reviews that this is a good book if you are interested in communication with spirits. Ms. Winikowski's theories and rationale at times are somewhat difficult to swallow. It feels, at times, to be wisdom passed from generation to generation. Having said that, though, she apparently is successful with her gift. I enjoyed this book and recommend it.
Believable and Fascinating June 26, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I really enjoyed this book, and once I picked it up I couldn't put it down. I don't watch "The Ghost Whisperer" and knew of Mary Ann only from radio interviews on shows like Coast to Coast AM with George Noory (whom she thanked in her acknowledgments in the back of the book). She was so likable and interesting I just had to get her book. I'm glad I did.
Tales Of A True Ghost Whisperer June 15, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I LOVE this book! I could not put it down. I want it to marry me and have my babies! Mary Ann has written the definitive book on paranormal reality. Her writing style is exquisite. Her personality comes through like a beacon of Light. As you read her book you can almost hear the authenticity in her voice. It is as if you are sitting down with a good friend who has fascinating wisdom and understanding as she shares her experiences of the paranormal. You will become so engrossed in her adventures that you will not be able to put this book down until you have finished it.
Mary Ann, in addition to educating, entertaining and absolutely blowing you away, offers the readers a great resource of wisdom on ghosts. I know I will keep this book on my shelf for years to come as a reference guide.
I will never again be afraid of things that go bump in the night. I now know exactly what an Earth-bound Spirit is, how living people become one, how to avoid becoming one myself and how to best relate to them. Mary Ann you have provided such a great service with this book. It is destined to become a classic. If ghosts have always fascinated you... run don't walk to purchasing this book. I highly recommend this book to people just learning about the paranormal or advanced, experienced seekers. It is your one stop shopping. Mary Ann you rock, normally and paranormally!
