Product Description
John Edward, Suzane Northrup, and George Anderson are just a few of the prominent American mediums who have been accused of being frauds. But what if a respected scientist challenged them to make contact with the beyond under controlled laboratory conditions? What if the results not only stunned a skeptical scientist but also offered astonishing answers to a timeless question: Is there life after death? THE AFTERLIFE EXPERIMENTS Risking his academic reputation, Dr. Gary E. Schwartz asked well-known mediums to become part of a series of experiments to prove, or disprove, the existence of an afterlife. This riveting narrative, with electrifying transcripts, documents stringently monitored experiments in which mediums attempted to contact dead friends and relatives of "sitters" who were masked from view and never spoke, depriving the mediums of any cues. Here are the results that awed sitters and researchers alike: a revelation about a son's suicide, what a deceased father wanted to say about his last days in a coma, the transformation of a man's lifelong doubts about the afterlife, and, most amazing of all, a forecast of a beloved spouse's death. Forced by data to abandon skepticism, Schwartz presents this amazing account of his groundbreaking work, compelling from first page to last.

Believe it or not January 5, 2009 The Afterlife Experiments: Breakthrough Scientific Evidence of Life After Death by Gary E. Schwartz deals in a controversial field to say the least. To investigate if there's life after death Schwartz uses mediums to contact people on "the other side." Some are actually convincing in their own way. Weather it is fact of trickery one will have to determine for themselves. There is a beautiful new book about God , faith and what you will do after death entitled "The Enlightenment, What God Told Me After One Million Prayers: A Message for Everyone," by John H. Eagan. I just finished it. It's really great and deals with God, the creator, Jesus' teachings, and His Passion. It brought me to tears. I think the readers of Schwartz' s book will really enjoy The Enlightenment.
Proof of the Afterlife December 1, 2008 If you have any doubt about life after death, read this book, plus Tom Schroder's book "Old Souls." Both have the scientific experiments to prove it. Both are super easy to read despite including scientific methods along with the stories of how things unfolded.
In the Afterlife Experiments, scientist Gary Schwartz takes great pains to perfect the experiments to such a degree that would rule out fraud unless there were a conspiracy among five mediums to tap the phones, find out who the sitters were, and then hire detectives to dig up all their personal info. Even then it couldn't explain the fact the many times the mediums would tell the sitter details that the sitter didn't know until he or she could call family. (This also ruled out telepathy.)
On top of that, as the experiments progressed, the mediums had to give the readings with the sitter behind a screen and the sitter unable to talk. This ruled out obtaining cues from the sitters.
The information in the readings was so specific, giving exact names of loved ones, and details such as "You are interested in taking up cattle raising" that guesses would have accounted for all the data only in a one in several trillion chance! The probability of all this happening by chance or guesses is for all practical purposes nil.
These experiments were done so scientifically that the information was published in 3 different articles, published in a scientific journal.
In spite of all this, the author notes, some skeptics seem addicted to their skepticism. Some even make a living off of it! Schwartz points out Occam's Razor which suggests that the simplest explanation is the one usually correct. After all is said and done, the explanation is that we are eternal beings with memories that go on after death.
Finally, Schwartz speculates on the future, as more people come to acknowledge the scientific evidence. Will deceased people be able to testify in court? Will they have legal rights such as partaking in decisions regarding their estate after they die? This, of course, would depend on our perfection of communicating with them. Now we have to rely on mediums. In the future, perhaps we'll have some electronic gadgets that enable ALL of us to do so. (Read "Conversations Beyond the Light" by Kubis & Marcy for more on that!)
SAVE YOU'RE MONEY November 5, 2008 OK, SO I READ THIS BOOK EVEN THOUGH I HAD TO FORCE MYSELF TO FINISH IT. BUT FOR THE LIFE OF ME I DON'T SEE WHERE THIS 'BREAKTHOUGH SCIENTFIC EVIDENCE' IS. ITS JUST 5 MEDIUMS DOING READINGS IN A CONTROLLED ENVIROMENT. THEY DO READINGS WHERE THEY NEVER MEET THE SITTER, NEVER SEE, NOR HEAR THEM. BUT I WILL SAY THAT ONE THING THIS BOOK DOES IS IT MAKES YOU WONDER WHERE THE MEDIUMS ARE GETTING THEIR INFORMATION FROM. THOUGH THE INFORMATION THEY 'RETRIVE' TO ME IS NOT CONVINCING. I NEED SOMETHING MORE. I WOULD RATHER READ UP ON NDE'S. WHEN IT COMES TO MEDIUMS I'M STILL NOT CONVINCED. BUT BY SAYING THAT I'M NOT IMPLYING THESE MEDIUMS ARE FULL OF IT. JUST THAT THIS SUBJECT ON MEDIUMS COULD USE MORE RESEARCH.

Dr. Schwartz has worked with noted mediums such as George Anderson, John Edward, and Suzanne Northrop, as well as mediums with shorter professional practice.
His work is often cited as something that might approach a scientific "proof" of afterlife, mediumship contact, similar to what Dr. Ian Stevenson performed in his work related to the topic of reincarnation associated with the Univeristy of Virginia.
Great book for scientific evidence to the paranormal January 17, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book shows how hard it is to scientifically prove that there is an afterlife, but they do it well and the book was very helpful for my niece and myself to understand the paranormal.
