Product Description
Bianca wants to escape. She's been uprooted from her small hometown and enrolled at Evernight Academy, an eerie Gothic boarding school where the students are somehow too perfect: smart, sleek, and almost predatory. Bianca knows she doesn't fit in. Then she meets Lucas. He's not the "Evernight type" either, and he likes it that way. Lucas ignores the rules, stands up to the snobs, and warns Bianca to be careful—even when it comes to caring about him. "I couldn't stand it if they took it out on you," he tells Bianca, "and eventually they would." But the connection between Bianca and Lucas can't be denied. Bianca will risk anything to be with Lucas, but dark secrets are fated to tear them apart . . . and to make Bianca question everything she's ever believed.

Very Good! October 6, 2008 An interesting book that held my attention alot longer than I originally thought it would.
twisty turny October 4, 2008 Evernight by Claudia Grey was provided to me as part of the Amazon Vine program.
Evernight is a teen drama about a girl named Bianca. Her parent's are teachers, and have landed jobs at an exclusive boarding school named Evernight Academy. Most of the kids there are perfect: smart, attractive, world travelers, and very clique-ish. Bianca doesn't fit in, until she meets Lucas. Lucas has issues, but Bianca loves him, even over another boy he seems better in every way.
The first half of this book seems like your typical teen novel. Trouble fitting in. Back stabbing kids. The works. And then it takes a serious turn. I liked the book after the turn, but I was a little frustrated in the secrets which were kept. The second half of the book is full of action and intrigue, and a few smaller twists along the way.
You definitely want to think of this as a modern fantasy book. I will watching for Stargazer (the sequel) when it comes out next year.
I read the hardcover edition. The dust jacket was pretty normal (if you like red) but the cover itself had a wonderfully embossed Evernight title.
A good love story! September 29, 2008 The twists in the story put you on the edge. The love story between bianca and lucas is very young and sweet. It reminds you of your own very first love and what you'd do to protect it. I look forward to reading more from her.
Very enjoyable read, but slightly predictable September 25, 2008 I found this to be an interesting book written from a different look at the main characters than I have seen in other novels and/or movies. The reason I gave it four stars instead of five is that at the end of the book I was left wanting more. The story was extremely engaging, fun, interesting, and even surprising at times. This build up cried out for a stronger ending. I wanted something more dramatic and definitive.
I would still recommend the book to others though. The ending wasn't so bad as to make me regret reading the book. I just enjoyed reading it so much that I expected something more at the end.
Does well for it's intended audience ... September 22, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Where as I did like this book, I just couldn't get into it as much as some of the other recent best selling young adult books and it's probably because this one actually felt like a YA novel.
The central protag of Evernight, Bianca, is a sixteen year old girl who has just arrived at Evernight Academy to begin school for the next year. She's not too happy about it and the novel opens with Bianca deciding to get the heck out while the getting's good. A mysterious student by the name of Lucas stops her- literally. And it's his charm and the attraction she feels toward him that makes her decide to give Evernight a chance.
Right off the bat, things are not easy for Bianca. For one thing, her parents are staying at the dark and foreboding Evernight academy too- as teachers- and for another, Bianca can't seem to relate to the popular crowd who could care less about anyone but themselves. To make things worse, Lucas is ignoring her!
Angst over her looks and how she should relate to the other students fills much of the beginning of this book. When she and Lucas finally find some time alone to clear up a misunderstanding that led him to believe Bianca IS part of the "in crowd"- a crowd that Lucas disdains as well- the book finally starts moving.
There are a couple other misunderstandings that crop up between them that go to the core of who they are and what Evernight academy is all about. And it's what Evernight Academy actually is that is the crux of the conflict in this book.
Evernight is relatively short and ends with obvious sequel bait. For it's intended audience (teenage girls) this book will do well- it's full of self esteem angst and the hardship of first love- but didn't quite hit the mark that recent YA best sellers (Twilight, Harry Potter, etc.) have set to reach an older audience.
In the end, I did like it because the author throws in some major twists, but I'm afraid it's missing the added spark to make this a true block buster.
