Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Aisling Grey is a courier enjoying a free, work-related trip to Paris when she learns she's a Guardian. That's a keeper of the Gates of Hell, for those who don't know. She finds this out from Drake Vireo, who's scrumptiously sexy-at least in his human form. Now Drake has stolen the package Aisling was sent to deliver, and she must track him down, get the package, and try to resist the passion boiling inside her.

3 out of 5 stars PLEASE slay him!   November 30, 2008
Okay... I enjoyed most of the book. It is campy silly dumb chick-lit type stuff for the most part. And I'm usually not too picky. I don't read this stuff looking for depth or to be impressed. I look for light fun reading with some romance thrown in. Mostly, this fills that.

However, her "mate" makes me hate the book. The back of the book says he's an annoying jerk, and they're right! He keeps doing things that annoy me and she keeps swooning despite claiming to hate him. Sorry, I don't enjoy reading about abusive relationships.

I skipped to her Silver Dragon series and liked it much better.

4 out of 5 stars You Slay Me   November 6, 2008
A funny quirky story about Aisling Grey who goes to Paris to deliver a package and ends up in world of trouble! There was some mystery mixed in with some hot (literally) romance scenes, as well as some unforgettable characters like the demon Jim, who takes shape as a Newfoundland dog. I can't wait to read more in this series.

5 out of 5 stars Couldn't stop laughing!   November 4, 2008
What a wonderful read! I really, really enjoyed this book. Aisling and her demon Jim were hilariously funny.

Based on the cover of this book and the premise of the story I really thought that I wouldn't like it, but MacAlister did a fine job of telling this story in a way that was both likeable and funny.

To give a brief synopsis, Aisling is a new courier working for her Uncle. She's on her first job, delivering a priceless piece in Paris when the job goes horribly wrong. The client is dead when she arrives and she meets Drake Viero, the leader of the green dragons, immortal shapeshifters.

Things quickly go from bad to worse when Drake leaves her to the mercy of the police AND steals her priceless artifact. The rest of the book is a wonderful dance of Aisling meeting the magical community of Paris, learning she's a Guardian and exploring the nature of all these connections, bonds and the mystery of who is killing the magical denizens of Paris.

A great book, I've already bought the next three in the series based on my enjoyment of this one.

4 out of 5 stars Great read for SATC & Carrie Bradshaw fans   October 9, 2008
Carrie Bradshaw + supernatural happenings + sexy dragon lover = Aisling Grey

Maybe it's because I started reading this book right after my daily fix of Sex & the City, but just 2 pages into the story & I already had SJP as Carrie Bradshaw playing the part of Aisling Grey in my head.

It may lack a focus on fashion, but it has just about everything else. Aisling & Carrie share the same age bracket, spunky & irreverent attitude, sarcastic American humor, & affinity for witty side quips. Both lives are rife with misadventures in & out of love, both women have quirks & rather naive personalities that can be endearingly irritating, and both are excellent heroines of the "I am single independent woman, hear me roar" sort. Even her snarky demon dog sidekick speaks (in my mind) like a New Yorker. Oh, and of course there's the steamy sex - except, in Aisling's case, it's "and the Hot Dragon" rather than "and the City."

Drake Vireo (Aisling's dragon lover) is very much the Mr. Big type. He's handsome, ridiculously wealthy, drives around in a black town car, is constantly thinking of business, & is just as frustratingly self-assured. His on & off relationship with Aisling is complicated, as despite their obvious physical attraction, their personalities often clash. Drake's aloof, arrogant, controlling, & way too serious. Aisling's talkative, quick to speak her mind, independent, & light-hearted. Not to mention they're both stubbornly set on what they want in life. As such, their fights are as fiery (pun intended, har har) as their love scenes. Hmm, sound familiar?

So, if you're looking for a light entertaining read with an SATC flavor, this series may be for you!

3 out of 5 stars curious but not hooked   September 17, 2008
I picked up this book after making it through the entire series of Sherrilyn Kenyon and KM Moning's Fever series. I have to say I am having a tough time with it. The characters are nicely done and Jim has the best comebacks ever, but while reading the book, I just didn't feel the urge to keep going thru all the details. It seems a bit cluttered to me and I really want to know what is happening to Drake and Aisling.
I guess what I am missing is chivalry.
If you like the Dark Hunters and the Fever series, you might give this a try - but it may not overwhelm you at all.
