5 out of 5 stars Lover Awakened   December 24, 2008
If you like romance books at all, you have to read the entire "Black Dagger Brotherhood" Series by JR Ward. This series is the "BEST". It comes with strong characters and a never before written back drop. I just reccommend to start with the first in the series and progress from there.

5 out of 5 stars I am in love with all of these warriors!!!   December 11, 2008
I loved this book. Bella and Z were wonderful. I have read all three of the books so far. I am starting the 4th book. I loved the way this book read. It wasn't like he wanted her to stay with her in the book. He just felt like he was not worth it. Bella loved him no matter how much he pressed her away. This is one of the best books I have read. Loved it...

4 out of 5 stars The Better of the Series   December 10, 2008
The story line:

A former blood slave, the vampire Zsadist still bears the scars from a past filled with suffering and humiliation. Renowned for his unquenchable fury and sinister deeds, he is a savage feared by humans and vampires alike. Anger is his only companion, and terror is his only passion--until he rescues a beautiful aristocrat from the evil Lessening Society.
Bella is instantly entranced by the seething power Zsadist possesses. But even as their desire for one another begins to overtake them both, Zsadist's thirst for vengeance against Bella's tormentors drives him to the brink of madness. Now, Bella must help her lover overcome the wounds of his tortured past, and find a future with her...
Spoilers:

Zsadist is one of the more interesting Characters in J.R. Wards bag of mental Vampires, and he has good reason to be of course. Bella a vampire herself is pretty likable, you can see why she is so intrigued in Zsadist. After all he has that whole, I'm a bad boy, thing going on. Now you can't read a JR Ward book with out lumbering thru a few awkward if not sick chapters of abuse and torture and Zsadist flash backs of being a blood slave are uncomfortable to put it mildly. Bella and him have good chemistry regardless. I really liked Bella's side story too, being abducted by a Slayer threw a wrench in the game, it was fun book all and all.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding   December 8, 2008
This is still, in my opinion, JR Ward's best work so far.

This is third book in the series and you absolutely must read the first two to expect to follow the plot of this one. The story begins with Bella, who has been kidnapped and abused, and Zsadist who is desperate to save her. As a warrior of exceptional skill with little regard to his own safety, he succeeds-only to realize he has no idea what to do with her. As it turns out Zsadist has a tragic past that has resulted in his lack of ability to connect with people-even in something as simple as being touched. He is dysfunctional and self-hating on many levels, but his new ties to Bella begin to make him rethink his life and help him put his past behind him.

The best stuff:

This story is raw and emotional. Ward does not shy away from the ugly and violent parts of her characters lives and personalities, so it is all the more beautiful when they find happiness despite it all.

Zsadist is oddly lovable. He isn't handsome or charming, but he is direct and loving. It's sweet to see him discover his ability to feel.

World-building seriously starts in this book as the war that the Brothers fight continues and new warriors must be trained. We also begin to get an idea of how vampire society works outside the military aspect.

5 out of 5 stars Hot and Tortured hero makes for good anxsty vamp romance!   December 6, 2008
Lover awakened is HOT HOT HOT!

Not gonna synopsis, just read previous reviews.

Zsadist (for a moment there I thought his name should've been Mhasochist!), was totally believable as a tortured hero- because he was soooo tortured. Sometimes I get grumbly about authors who put their heroes thru hell and then have them magically recover once love is found.

Ok yeah, Ward did it too, but in this tale- it worked. I suppose it worked for me because the anxst level was so much higher ... and believable ... but most of all, I bought the hook because Z's healing didn't happen overnight. (How sweet was his little note to Bella?)

I liked Bella as a heroine, perhaps more so than other's in Ward's BDB series. Although I do appreciate all of them differently.

The sub plot of the lesser-bad-guys is kinda out there for me. I skimmed most of the passages while the big bad, O, ruminated on and on.

Still, I will definitely keep buying the rest.
