Product Description Since time began, there have been Nightwalkers - the races of the night who live in the shadows of the moonlight. Love with humans is absolutely forbidden, and one man makes certain to uphold this ancient law: Jacob, the Enforcer...For 700 Years, He has resisted temptation. But not tonight...Jacob knows the excuses his people give when the madness overtakes them and they fall prey to their lust for humans. He's heard every one and still brought the trespassers to justice. Immune to forbidden desires, uncontrollable hungers, or the curse of the moon, his control is total...until the moment he sees Isabella on a shadowy New York City street. Saving her life wasn't in his plans. Nor were the overwhelming feelings she arouses in him. But the moment he holds her in his arms and feels the soft explosion of her body against his, everything changes. Their attraction is undeniable, volatile, and completely against the law. Suddenly everything Jacob has ever believed is inflamed by the heat of desire...Bring on the night.

I loved this story! December 26, 2008 I loved this story. The characters were fun and sexy, the story line was at different times both humorous and suspenseful. While I found some of the passages giving background to the story, like the history of the Demons, a bit long, it was definitely worth reading to get to all the great parts. I can't wait to read the 2nd book in this series.
Isabella and Jacob December 5, 2008 Jacob is an Enforcer, in charge of punishing rogue demons that attempt to break their ancient laws that keep humans safe. On one of his pursuits he encounters Isabella, a human that drops into his path. Despite the laws of his kind his attraction lures him to defy all he holds dear in order to have the one human that sets his body on fire. Isabella is intrigued by the new world Jacob reveals but she soon finds out she means more to their race than anyone could imagine. As Jacob and Isabella journey towards the discovery of an ancient prophecy their lust continues to spark, until finally neither one can deny the craving for each other.
***This author has created an interesting world with demons and humans coexisting. Jacob was sweet and domineering, the perfect other half to Isabella, who is stubborn and feisty. The secondary characters help bring this story to light and will lead to interesting stories of their own. I found the author would jump from character perspectives sparadically which left a little confusion but it was not a huge enough deal to alter my overall rating. I typically like more detailed erotica in my novels but I do recommend this book for paranormal romance fans, I will be checking out the next book in this series.
Great new series! December 3, 2008 Yes! A wonderful, wonderful new series, which is a lovely thing to find! I have read all of them in order except for Noah, and I am impressed. My favorites so far are Jacob and Gideon -- wow!
Romantic and Original November 26, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This story is your typical paranormal romance-showing the journey of one extraordinary couple from the time they meet to the point where they realize their destiny together after overcoming certain obstacles, both conventional and supernatural. Jacob is a Demon who commands the element earth. He also serves as the Enforcer for his species, a kind of judge and jury combo to keep everyone inline. The story kicks off when he discovers Isabella, his Druid mate, who has no idea that she is anything other then human. For Demons, there is an apparent law against mating with humans and as such, there romance is initially forbidden and therefor suitably intriguing.
Overall I found the book to be entertaining. Jacquelyn Frank does some very different and interesting things with the world she has created-giving us not only demons and magic, but also endless possibilities of shape-shifters, vampires, and soul mates. For this reason I believe the series could appeal to even the more jaded paranormal romance readers. The reason that this lost a star for me is mainly stylistic-at times the wording is flowery and sentence and paragraph structure are verbose and repetitive. It does not detract hugely from the affect of the story.
Disappointed November 24, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I don't like to leave a book unfinished, but sometimes they are just too painful to plod through.
The description and plot line of "Jacob" sounded great. This book had potential. Unfortunately, the writing is awful. It's trite with string after string of corny metaphors. I stopped reading when just after the book explains that demons are night creatures who can't be in the sun without falling asleep, the author refers to Jacob's (the demon) tan. The dialogue is affected and just not believable. When I start to feel like I'm reading with half my mind on how I would edit a scene (and I'm not an editor), I know it's time to move on. If you haven't checked them out, try Katie MacAlister, J.R. Ward, Kreseley Cole, Sabrina Jeffries, or Gena Showalter for good paranormal romance.
