4 out of 5 stars Fun read!   December 1, 2008
I picked this up at the bookstore on a lark. I'm a dedicated Charlaine Harris and Jim Butcher fan, so I figured I couldn't go wrong. This is a book for entertainment; it's very light-hearted, and yes, it's full of the "gross" factor, but it was fun to read some of my favorite authors take a side trip from their usual series that I know and love. It was also a great way to experience some previously unread authors for me so I can be on the lookout for their books. All in all, it was worth purchasing and even the few that were just not my bag were far outnumbered with enjoyable stories.

2 out of 5 stars No Sookie here....   November 18, 2008

Got this from the library just for the Charlaine Harris story. While mildly entertaining, it was not a Sookie Stackhouse short story. For those of us in love with Sook, it' a bit dissapointing. That's not to say everything that Harris writes must be set in that world -- but if she's going to stray I need a bit better than what was included here. Fans can miss this easily....

3 out of 5 stars Disappointed   November 18, 2008

I enjoyed a few of the stories, but was mostly disappointed. The title was the bet part of the book

Horror isn't really my prefered genre. This anthology makes me think maybe there's a reason for that.

As with any multi-author anthology, the quality of the stories varies. Jim Butcher's Day Off and Kelly Armstrong's The Ungrateful Dead are amusing additions to the popular Dresden Files and Women of the Otherworld series, but with few exceptions, the rest of the stories range from boring to just plain bad, with occasional 'disgusting' thrown in for variety. (I'm not sure why 'horror' equals 'being offensively crude when describing women', but apparently it does.) I say skip it unless you're a very committed Dresden Files or Jamie Vegas fan.

I bought this book solely for the Kelley Armstrong story. Regardless of which woman of the otherworld narrated it, I would have bought it. Lucky for me, it was my favorite woman of the otherworld, Jaime Vegas. I've enver been disappointed by anything of Kelley's. There is always humor, though most of the time dark. And there is action (note: usually less action in Jaime's stories than others). This book is worth the money spent for this story alone.

Sorry guys... haven't had time to read the rest.
