Product Description Leona Hewitt, disguised in men’s formal evening clothes, has secretly made her way into Lord Delbridge’s private museum to recover a relic stolen from her family years ago. But someone else is there in the dimly lit gallery, on the same errand: a tall, black-cloaked man whose very voice is enough to put her in a trance.
Thaddeus Ware, a mesmerist with powerful psychic energy, is accustomed to fearful reactions from others - women in particular. After all, a man who can control the minds and actions of others could rob a lady of her virtue - without her ever knowing! But Leona shows no trace of hysteria in his presence. A force to be reckoned with as both a gifted crystal worker and a woman, she exerts a rather hypnotic power over the hypnotist himself. And she is determined to keep the crystal they recovered, by giving him the slip at a run-down London inn.
Thaddeus, on assignment for the secretive Arcane Society, knows the menace Leona is courting by absconding with the crystal. It is a source of remarkable energy, and it holds the potential for great destruction. Lord Delbridge has already killed two men to acquire it, for it is his key to membership in the elite, shadowy group known as the Third Circle. And with the help of a seductive hunter of preternatural skill, dubbed “The Midnight Monster” by the press, Delbridge intends to find her. With the stolen crystal in their possession, the danger is only beginning.

Great read - fast delivery! January 7, 2009 Great book - all pen name's of author are wonderful - if you're a die hard romantic suspense reader the sagas and trilogies of books are for you!
Arcane Society January 5, 2009 This is the next installment of the Arcane Society Annals by Jayne Ann Krentz aka Amanda Quick aka Jayne Castle. I love her by any name but I really don't care for so many novels about this Society, that is the reason for four stars. At first I enjoyed the stories but enough is enough let us move on to other things. These novels are remenisient of the three books, AMARYLLIS, ORCHID, AND ZINNIA. The powers are very much alike. I much prefer the Harmony books with the psychic powers linked to amber. The last Harmony book also had the Arcane Society in it. But be of good cheer this one is almost out in paperback.
As there are so many good reviews I will just say that I enjoyed the book and as I bought it used I have no regrets.
Fast-paced and fun paranormal historical romance October 20, 2008 Leona Hewitt is determined to recover a crystal that has been in her family (on and off) for many years, but was stolen from her mother. Thaddeus Ware, who is a member of the Arcane Society, has mesmerist powers, and is determined to get the same crystal artifact for the Society. They meet over a dead body in the house of a Lord who dabbles in dark powers, both attempting to secretly steal the jewel--and they find that they need both of their skills together to accomplish their goals. Afterwards, Thaddeus is concerned about Leona, who has taken the jewel. The unscrupulous Lord and his associates want the jewel back and also want Leona, who has the power to make the crystal work for them and gain them secrets and power. Leona and Thaddeus are forced to work together again.
As with all Quick's tales, this is a fast and delightful read, particularly if you like paranormal romances.
Wonderful August 23, 2008 I love this book. Shipped when and received as promised. Will order again.
Interesting Read! August 12, 2008 I have read quite a few of Quicks books and this one is worth the read! I could not put it down! The subject was interesting and the characters were believeable. The romance could have been a little more involved. Overall, if you like her writing you should be satisfied with this book.
