The matter of fact approach in this book leaves a lot to be desired. I was hoping this would be a fun spooky read for Halloween with the kids. The 10 O'clock news has more flair and drama than this book. I'll keep searching for something more entertaining.
 Disturbing- Hope He Makes Me Quaker December 26, 2007
This is a semi popular occult book with the Quaker religion, about ghost haunting stories from all 50 states and Canada. Gone is the childlike spooks of ghosts and in is the very adult idea of ghost hunting. I picked in real life LARP to be a paladin Ghost Hunter, and it's a very easy job. The common ghost will easily vanish and perish with the flash of even the smallest crucifix symbol. The only real disturbing thing was that this was made by Quakers. It runs the gamut- this is the occult of Christianity, and is still shunned by the conservative right wing. The occult in Christianity is what the right wing doesn't want you to know. Just like Aleister Crowley is the occult in Thelema, and he sparked a renewed interest in esoteric subject matter in the 1900s. Screw paying a local church like it's a course on it, live in in LARP style. LARP- live action role playing game. I'm a turn of the century paladin ghost hunter with a cloak of protection, cross of repulsion, scourge of lashing with a turn undead power and heal spell. Once you lose your sense of humor about something like your religion, more people will laugh at it. I love it- it's real and spooky and it works. God bless.

Whether you believe in ghosts or not, this journalistic approach to various documented reports of hauntings across America is certainly entertaining. Among my favorite accounts is the tale of spirits who roam the building of the North Carolina division of Archives and History. Though Norman and Scott don't actually say if they believe all the supernatural mysteries they write about, this is a great analysis and re-telling. An interesting book for 'believers', or if you just desire a good anthology of campfire ghost stories for next Halloween. These spine chilling tales won't leave you disappointed.
It was unfortunate to learn that Beth Scott passed away in 1994.

I liked the book but I guess I was expecting more of a spine- tingling experience. I wanted to get scared while reading and that definitely did not happen. Entertaining though.

This book scared the crap out of me, and of course I was dumb enough to read it at night.
I really enjoyed the fact that the authors just report their findings and related stories, and I didn't feel like they were trying to convert anyone.
A great read!!!
