Amazon.com Call it Kolchak: The Night Stalker, The College Years or Buffy the Vampire Slayer for Boys, but the horror series Supernatural delivers some of the most satisfying small-screen scares in recent memory. The premise is deceptively simple: brothers Sam and Dean (Jared Padalecki from Gilmore Girls and Jensen Ackles, both appealing) travel the darker corners of the American landscape in search of their father, who's gone missing while hunting the malevolent forces that lead to the death of their mother. In the course of their search, the siblings encounter a host of otherworldly creatures, including vampires, ghosts, and witches, as well as such distinctly American phenomena as the urban-legend favorite the Hook ("Hookman"), monsters from Native American mythology ("Wendigo"), and fearful figures from children's games ("Bloody Mary"). Supernatural's integration of elements from American pop culture and folklore, combined with its skilled cast and crew (creator/co-writer Erik Kripke delivered 2005's Boogeyman, while director/executive producer David Nutter is a veteran of The X-Files and Millennium), and better-than-average attempts at atmosphere and suspense place the series well above the other spookshow programs that arrived on networks at about the same time (Invasion, Night Stalker), and should hold considerable appeal for fans of frightful fare. The six-disc set contains all 22 episodes of the debut season, with commentary by Ackles and Padalecki on "Phantom Traveler" and Nutter, Kripke, and producer Peter Johnson on the pilot episode; two making-of documentaries (one on the show itself, and the other on its stars), as well as a brace of unaired scenes and a gag reel round out the set. For those with DVD-ROM capabilities, the set also includes a link to a web site which offers a sneak preview at season 2 and the pilot script, among other bonus features. --Paul Gaita

Good so far but not great... July 13, 2008 First, I must note that I love TV shows like Smallville, Buffy, Charmed, & X-Files. So naturally Supernatural definitely falls into that genre so I figured I would give it a try. I think this is a good show but not great like Smallville which is my favorite. The acting is fine. Actually, I think the character's have very good chemistry, also like the classic rock music, muscle cars, & the beautiful cast. So what I don't care for is this show is lacking in suspense & storylines aren't as good as a show like Smallville. The storylines can be better for each episode. Good news is it's very watchable & I hear that Supernatural gets better in Seasons 2&3. So I am going watch all those seasons first then come to a final conclusion of what I think of this show overall. This is only a review for teh first season.
cool series July 12, 2008 I love this series so I had to buy the set. I recently purchased the 3rd season due out in september, and Im looking forward to it.
Supernatural is SUPER July 11, 2008 Just an awesome series. A modern day Karl Kolchak but brothers. Good personal dynamics. Only criticism is as the series unfolds, I dont really think they take Hell as seriously as they ought to, making deals w/ the demons. For all that they acknowedge the demons and the forces of Evil, they seem devoid of the concept of the powers of Good, whether it be angels, God, or some sort of diety.
Surprisingly enjoyable July 6, 2008 Whilst not up to X-Files standards, Supernatural is a deeply enjoyable show. The two leads enjoy real chemistry, the scripts are both genuinely eerie and amusing, and the camera work can be excellent. A real surprise.
who doesn't love staring at hot guys? July 3, 2008 If you have seen the show and enjoyed it at all; of course you'll love season one! I mean...who doesn't want to stare at two hotties like that? ;) In all seriousness, the series is wonderful if you are into the supernatural world anyhow b/c its interesting to see the kind of research that goes into every show.
